Chapter 14 ~ Nightmare

"W-what," Trixie asked. "Time travel?" Starlight nodded. "Why?"

"I've... got some ideas." Starlight got closer to Trixie. "Imagine this. Twilight Sparkle never became the princess of friendship. In fact, she never even became Celestia's student. The rainboom never happened. Actually, why even stop there? What if something happened to Princess Celestia, Luna, and Cadence? And Equestria was left to be ruled by two unicorns?"

Trixie didn't understand at first, but eventually caught on. She had a bit of trouble actually believing Starlight was serious. Until she looked Starlight in the eyes. It was actually kind of scary.

"I-I don't know," Trixie stuttered.

"Come on," Starlight said. "Haven't you ever wanted to rule the world? Everyone would worship you. No one could make fun of you again! This could be your revenge on the ponies who turned their back on you. This could be your revenge to the pony who ruined your life." Trixie's eyes widened. She opened her mouth to disagree, but stopped. That actually all sounded awesome. "It would be a win win situation. You get your revenge, and I get to show the world just how great equality is."

"But wait, what about all those villains that were defeated by the princesses and Twilight?"

"Don't worry about that. I've got this all planned out. I'll take care of all that while you don't have to do anything." Trixie smiled.

"Ruling the world... I... Like that. But are you sure that-"

"Like I said, don't worry about all of that." Trixie nodded.

"Okay. So when are we going to do it?"

"As soon as I figure out this spell." A thought came to Trixie. How can she do this without her cutie mark, Trixie wondered. She was about to ask, but stopped. She figured Starlight knew what she was doing. "Why don't you get some sleep? I'll stay up doing this." Trixie nodded.

...

Trixie was on a stage. All eyes were on her. The ponies cheered. Except for one. A purple pony in the back. She walked towards the stage, wearing the alicorn amulet. Trixie took a step back as the pony jumped onto the stage.

"Wow Trixie your soooo amazing," the pony said in a mocking tone. "Let's change that." The pony levitated Trixie, flinging her off stage. As soon as Trixie stood up, she was frozen. The pony stopped her from moving. "Can't be great and powerful without this."

Trixie's cutie mark slowly started coming off. Trixie screamed.

"No," Trixie yelled. "Don't!" The pony laughed.

"Oh Trixie. Don't you know there is only room for one powerful unicorn?"

"Stop!" The pony just laughed. As soon as the cutie mark was all the way off, it disappeared. "N-no..."

"You don't need it." Trixie ran off, no longer being held in place. The ponies laughed as she ran.

No matter how far she got, the voices wouldn't disappeared. Trixie started crying. Looking back to see how far everyone was, she bumped into someone. It was the purple pony.

"W-why," Trixie cried. The pony hugged Trixie.

"Don't cry. Everything is fine. Right?" Trixie nodded. Suddenly, the voices were back; they were louder than ever. Trixie tried to run but couldn't. She was stuck. She screamed.

...

Trixie woke up, looking at her surroundings. She was relieved to see that it was just a dream. As she was about to go back to sleep, she felt like something was off. Something was touching her. She turned her head to see Starlight was sleeping with her hoof around her. And for once, Trixie found it comforting.

Instead of shoving the hoof away like she had done many times, she did nothing but smile. What she didn't know was that Starlight was awake. She had felt Trixie moved and expected Trixie to move away. When she didn't, Starlight got closer. Still, Trixie did nothing. The two went to sleep like that.
