Trixie groaned and put her hoof to her head. She had a massive headache. She wasn't going to open her eyes, but she heard a voice.
"Trixie," Sugar Belle said in a worried tone. Trixie slowly opened her eyes to see Sugar Belle standing over her. "Are you alright?"
"Y-yea," Trixie stuttered. "I think so... Wait!" Trixie quickly stood up, only to fall back down. "Where am I?" Sugar Belle looked down to the ground.
"Your back at the village. Starlight locks ponies in this house until they give in to her beliefs." It was just now that Trixie heard another voice. She looked around the room but no one was there. The voice sounded like Starlight's.
"Where's that voice coming from?" Sugar Belle pointed at the roof.
"Up there. It goes on for what feels like forever. Going on and on about why cutie marks are bad and blah blah blah. It gets really annoying and hard to endure. But that's the point." Trixie slowly got up this time.
"Wait, your already part of the village. Why are you here?"
"She heard everything."
"Oh... right. So how do we escape?"
"You can't. After you lose your cutie mark, you've basically got nothing left in you. The door isn't going to budge." Trixie laughed.
"Oh please. I'm sure I can break the door down in no time." She walked towards the door and tried using her magic. Nothing was working. couldn't even get a spark. "Why isn't my horn working?"
"I don't understand how all that stuff works, but it's all somehow connected to your cutie mark."
"Hmm. Well then, I guess I'll just have to use my hooves. Trixie started banging on the door. Sugar Belle watched, sadness in her eyes. She knew Trixie's attempts were useless. "Come! On! Stupid door!"
"Trixie!" Trixie turned to Sugar Belle. "Just stop already. I've been here before and I've seen a bunch of other ponies here too. There's nothing you can do that others haven't already tried."
"But we got to do something! I don't want to be stuck in here forever. I'm already getting tired of that stupid voice!"
"Were not gonna be here forever. Once they think we've accepted they're way of life, they'll let us out." Trixie attempted kicking the door down with her hind legs.
"I'm not accepting anything!"
"That's what they all say..." Sugar Belle was fighting back the tears in her eyes.
"Can't we just, I don't know, pretend we've been brainwashed?" Trixie said it as if it was the most obviously thing ever.
"You honestly think no one has ever tried that before? Starlight is always one step ahead. She'll lock you in here as many times as it takes, until you know nothing but equality."
"There's got to be a way. Maybe if we be smart about this, we can pull it off."
"Trixie... nothing is gonna work. The sooner you accept that, the better." Sugar Belle turned away from Trixie.
"Sugar Belle-"
"No. Just... leave me alone." Trixie sighed. She sat and stared at the door. Waiting for it to open.
...
One day later
As soon as the door opened, Trixie ran out. Only to bump into Starlight. Trixie tried running around her, but failed.
"Let me go," Trixie yelled. "I refuse to be apart of this!" Starlight used her magic to pull Trixie back into the room. She sighed.
"I guess we'll try this again tomorrow. Sugar Belle?" She turned her attention to Sugar Belle. "Will you be rejoining us?" Sugar Belle immediately got up and ran towards Starlight.
"Yes," Sugar Belle exclaimed. "I'm sorry for everything I did! I don't want my cutie mark! I just want to be happy with you all." Starlight smiled. Trixie tuned out everything they said after that. She had been hoping Sugar Belle would come through in the end and help her escape. Turns out that wasn't the case. Sugar Belle was too scared of Starlight. Trixie stood up when she heard the door close.
She knew there was only one way she was getting out of here. She'd have to earn their trust. And instead of running off as soon as she was free, she'd have to stop Starlight directly.
The voice started speaking again. Trixie hadn't even noticed it stopped. She yelled out in anger and threw a book at the door. She stood there starring at the door. Tears were forming in her eyes.
She froze when she heard the door opening. Starlight stood there, a smile on her face. Trixie grabbed another book and threw it at her. But missed.
"Stay back," Trixie yelled. The door closed behind Starlight.
"Trixie," Starlight said in a soft voice. She walked towards Trixie.
"I said stay back! She was about to throw another book, until Starlight levitated them all away. "What do you want? I said I didn't want to join!" Starlight gave a small laugh.
"We both know that's not true. I saw you considering it back before I left to talk to Double Diamond. It's just this whole cutie mark thing that's stopping you. But once you accept it, you'll realize just how great it is here."
"Never! Starlight, this isn't right. Just let me leave already." Starlight got closer to Trixie and narrowed her eyes.
"If I were to give you your cutie mark back and let you leave, what would you do?"
"Um... I'd go on with my life of coarse."
"Yes, but could you be more specific?"
"I'd probably go back to looking for places to perform."
"But why?" Trixie gave her a confused look.
"Because it's what I do. It's what my cutie mark is about. I do stage magic and amaze ponies!" Trixie stuck her nose up in the air.
"So, you'd go back to being alone? Hmm. Interesting choice."
"B-But I uh..." Trixie couldn't think of what to say. Starlight wasn't wrong. As much as she hated being alone, that's basically all that was waiting for her out there.
"Welp, that's your choice." She walked a bit closer.
"So do I get it back now?" Starlight sat down by Trixie. Trixie sat too.
"No." Trixie turned her head away.
"Ugh!" Starlight put her hoof under Trixie's chin and forced Trixie to look at her. Trixie realized Starlight was sitting a little too close. They looked into each others eyes. They sat in silence for a while. Trixie felt weird and awkward.
"Take as much time as you want. I'll wait." Starlight stood up and headed towards the door. The door opened and she left. Trixie just sat there, confused. She didn't know what Starlight was trying to do, but she was scared to admit it was working.
