It was awkward for all of us when we continued our journey, for us to kill Ava Paige and for them to find their friend.

Of course it wouldn't have been awkward if Jessica just kept her mouth shut. It's okay to let people know how you feel, but the way she did it was only causing more drama then good. The guys weren't sure how to handle her so they didn't approach her at all, while we wanted to give her space- so that lead to her walking behind us all. From time to time I heard her mumbling something but she didn't approach us.

I had been upset with her choice of words, she made it sound as if Rhain liked killing Riley, while all Rhain did was keep us save and probably it has been what Riley wanted. Since none of us wanted to turn into a crank and lose all sanity.

Then again Jessica didn't know about all the hardships we had faced together since she was the last arrival before we were freed. She had no idea about the Griever attacks or what it was like running through the maze everyday and feeling as if it's all hopeless. She had only spend four days in the maze, she knew nothing.

"Hey, you okay" I suddenly heard from my right.

Confused I looked up into Newts eyes- it only raised more confusion since he was the last one I thought would talk to me. He made it clear he didn't trust me and it was mutual. Still there was something about his dark brown eyes that seemed like you could trust him.

"Yeah" I muttered.

He let out an awkward chuckle, "look I know you said you're okay, but then explain why your frown was so deep we could all hide in there" he asked as he lightly tapped my forehead.

I felt self conscious as I felt my forehead, was he trying to imply I'm old? Was he trying to say that I had wrinkles? It had been a while since I last looked in a mirror and when you're in a desert the last thing on your mind is how you look. I always wore my hair in a ponytail since I lost my hairbrush in the first crank attack- stupid me thought that if you throw your hairbrush at them it would actually work.

"Yikes sorry, I think I just made it worse" he said as he moved his hand through his blonde hair after he noticed my facial expression, "look I haven't been around girls for at least three years, so I don't know what to say right now".

"Yeah I can see that" I shot back as I looked the other way, hoping this conversation would end before he would call me fat.

He cleared his throat, "I'm sorry Ceylon".

I simply shrugged my shoulders.

The last thing I wanted right now is to get insulted by Newt again, I don't know if he meant it or not. But it did hit me, even though I don't always act lady like, I'm still one.

I looked around and saw that some of the others were having a conversation, some were quiet like that Aris guy and Jessica. Even Aaliyah was having a conversation with Frypan- she really seemed to enjoy herself.

"So" Newt started as he opened his mouth again.

I roll my eyes as I grabbed his arm to stop him from moving, "how many times do I have to apologize for jumping your friend, I already explained to you why I did it in the first place".

Newt fluttered his eyes as he looked at me in confusion, "what? I wanted to ask you if you were a runner".

"Oh".

I quickly let go of him before I start walking again, if there was a brick laying around I would have hit myself with it. Sometimes I can be such an idiot.

From the left I heard Newt chuckling softly, "so were you".

I only nod, "yeah I used to be one, that's why Emme said I can take you on".

"Explains it all" he said with a smirk. "I noticed you're fast when you jumped Aris, he had no idea you were coming".

I awkwardly scratched the back of my neck, why did he keep bringing that up?

"Ah yeah I think so" I answer him, "so that guy over there, Thomas, is he like the leader of you guys".

That was the one thing that immediately drew attention to me, that he seemed to be the one pulling the strings among them. Newt on the other hand found it a difficult question since he didn't answer me after a few minutes.

"I guess so, after our first in command was killed in the Glade, we never really assigned a new leader".

I nodded, "what about the second in command".

"Too Democratic" Newt joked, "he's more like the glue that holds then together rather then the one making the choices".

I wanted to ask him some more things, like what was his role in the Glade and most importantly how he got the limp. But I didn't know if I could trust his answers yet, so I decided to wait until later- we're not close to ask those kinds of questions.

My eyes wandered to Rhain who was walking with Thomas by her side, I couldn't see if they were talking because of my misunderstanding Newt and I were walking at the back. Even the moping Jessica was in front of us.

"Watch out snake" Newt said calmly as he pulled me towards him.

I looked around to see the snake he mentioned but I didn't see anything, and when I looked up I saw his smiling face. He was just joking around.

A soft huff left my mouth as I shook my arm out of his embrace, "funny Newt" I told him as I rolled my eyes at him.

Newt on the other hand was still laughing, not that I saw the humor in it or why he did it. Maybe this was his way to break the ice between us.

Why are guys so lame?
