For the third times this night I woke up because images I rather forget. With a sigh I sit up and rub my eyes and look around the room, everyone was peacefully asleep. We had lost daylight unfortunately since Jessica really didn't listen to anyone and kept a slow pace, that was until there came a sandstorm our way and suddenly the girl was running in front of the group.
Now we are all slightly cramped up in some shed, hoping that the storm will be gone in the morning. All of us awake in this space is going to cause frustration and with that I mean that Jessica is going to be a little shit to everyone.
'Finally decided that going back to sleep doesn't work" I hear a voice say behind me, part of me expected it to be Thomas but to my surprise it's Newt. Ceylon sleeping peacefully on his shoulder, she looks so young.
"was planning on trying again, three times a charm right?" I joke softly and he chuckles. After that we fall into silence. I turn to face him, not that he noticed he is too busy staring at Ceylon. He removes a hair lock out of her face, the action makes her move closer against him making him smile.
"you really like her" I state instead of asking. It is clear on his face and besides I heard Aris joke about the fact he had apparently called her love, very cute.
His cheeks turn pink as he tries to stammer up some kind of response. It only makes me chuckle and shake my head. Boys can just be as giddy as girls that's for sure.
"don't worry, I'm glad she can just be a girl around you. She doesn't need to feel like a lab rat all the time"
"she does the same for me" he replies and wraps an arm around her before looking at me "again I am sorry you had to see that"
I shake my head again and shrug"like I said then don't worry about it"
He chuckles softly making sure he didn't sound too loud in case we woke someone up.
"I'm pretty sure you said something about food" he jokes making me roll my eyes. Like I know what I had exactly said, I was kind of in shock in that moment.
"right. That too" I mutter back before continuing "but all joking aside. I am really glad you can make her walls come down, even if it's just a bit. There is an wonderful person behind them" I smile sadly at Ceylon. Even in the glade when it was just the two of us in the night I rarely saw her walls down then for more than just a second. Now I will probably never get that close with her again, not after what I did.
"She will come to forgive you" he smiles but it quickly fades when I chuckle bitterly.
"no she won't. she probably already knows in her head why I did what I did but she will never forgive me for it" I start taking a deep breath. Saying it out loud hurts more than just thinking it "I accepted that burden a long time ago and I will carry that burden till our mission is done or when I'm dead. Whichever comes first"
"you are a strong person" he says after a minute of silence. He probably didn't really know what else to say. Not that I care he means well and since he had been second in command he most understand some level of the burdens of a leader, same as Ceylon.
"I learned from the best" I say nodding towards Cey. Who's still fast asleep on him.
"Really? I thought Jessica had taught you" he jokes and I have to put my hand over my mouth to keep my laughter down same as him.
"she taught me patience I'll give her that" I says still half laughing.
"just one thing Newt" I say and he hums softly "break her heart and I'll rip yours out" I warn him but he is not even a little scared, if he was then he knows how to hide it.
"I would expect nothing less"

The next morning I wake up when someone softly shakes me awake. I blink twice before Aailya's face comes into view. She smiles at me as I nod to her that I'm awake.
"Thomas want's to leave a little earlier now that storm has past" she tells me before walking back to frypan. Slightly disoriented I look around. I don't remember falling asleep again last night. But the talk with Newt had apparently helped cause I had no more nightmares. No more dreaming of Emme were she asks me not to kill her which in the dream I still did, blood everywhere. I shake my head getting those images out of my head, I slept well no need to give myself a day-nightmare.
Suddenly I feel something cold against my cheek. With a small gasp I look up and see Thomas standing over me holding a bottle of water and some dried fruit out for me. With a soft thank you I take it , only realizing how hungry I was when I stuff al the food in one go in my mouth. That's right I forgot to eat last night before I went to sleep.
"Easy there you don't have to eat that fast" he jokes before taking a sip from his drink.
"I was under the impression that you wanted to get moving since we lost some time yesterday" I shot back and he mutters something under his breath.
"right then, let's get going then" he calls shrugging his backpack better on his back. He winks teasingly at me, like he wants to tell that two can play that game. With a shake of my head I stand up realizing that most were already ready to go, did they let me sleep or something? Even Jessica was ready.
Quickly I put on my Jacket and backpack before following them out.
