I had my head buried in my hands, it had been hours ago since we lost Emme. But even hours later I was still crying my heart out.
I was afraid to look up, afraid I would see Emme's dead body laying there. But according to Jessica the boys had given her a proper burial. I couldn't be there, they were hesitant to leave me alone in the room, but I told them it was fine. I wanted to be alone with my thoughts right now.
Emme, who is, no was like a sister to me is now dead. Her life just began, she was only thirteen years old. Why do bad things always happen to good people.
The guys said they would look around the building to search for food and water. That took me back to me telling Emme not to drink all her water in once, I felt guilty for telling her that- not that I had any idea about her fate.
Riley's dead had effected us too, but Emme's felt like someone ripped my heart out. She was taken from me, while I promised her it would all be alright. I was guarding over her like a big sister, still I couldn't keep her safe.
It stings and I couldn't deal with it.
"Where do you think she is" I heard Thomas' voice ask softly. I knew they were talking about Rhain, but not out loud- afraid of my reaction.
I didn't care about anything anymore, Rhain can shoot me too. I couldn't keep a thirteen year old save, I had no right to keep breathing while her breath stopped.
It should have been me who died not Emme.
"I don't know, maybe we overlooked a room" I heard Newt say, "are the other still looking for supplies".
Thomas hummed, "yeah, shuck why did this have to happen".
Good question Thomas.
The more I heard them talk, the more I started to think about Emme. Her innocence, how she sometimes could be sassy and how she always wanted to hug you. Those warm hugs I will never feel anymore.
"Beats me, what I do know is that you're concerned about Rhain since she's all alone. So you should go look for her" Newt said, breaking the silence.
"But" Thomas replied before there was a pause in his sentence, "what about Ceylon, she'sfragile right now".
I heard one of them sigh, "it's okay, I'll keep an eye on her".
One of them stood up and took a few steps before turning back, "I think you might be the only one who can comfort her right now".
I closed my eyes, wanting to fall asleep and not wake up anymore.
All I saw was darkness surrounding me, I was just waiting to be swallowed into it.
