We made our way up to Ava Paige's office, which used to be her office.
Since there were too much of us to all tag along, we decided that just our gang would go to the office. Aris and Frypan decided to stay behind to take watch, they knew that we needed someone we can trust with the other teens.
That's how we ended up in complete silence walking through the hallways, following Rhain who obviously knew where we had to go. Thomas was walking right beside her, which wasn't a surprise to any of us after their passionate kiss. I should have seen it coming, I should have known there was something more going on between the two of them, I was just blinded by Newt to fully understand what was going on.
"Okay guys" Rhain said as she swallowed, "we have to take the elevator all the way up".
Thomas who noticed her uneasiness put his lower hand on her back, "it's okay, you're not alone".
She smiled thankfully at him as she pressed the button for the elevator to open up. The five of us made our way inside the small room.
I noticed Rhain leaning against Thomas while she was trying to control her breathing, while Newt was just frowning while looking straight ahead, I wonder what's on his mind. Then there was Minho, who obviously felt a little uncomfortable with all the couples surrounding him. He must be confused, he was separated from the group for not longer then two weeks.
"So you two know what to do after we reach the office" Minho asked.
Rhain simply nodded.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, she jumped out of it. She took a deep breath before turning to face us, "okay guys follow me".
"Let's follow her" Minho deadpanned as he pushed me towards the way Rhain was going.
It makes me wonder once again how he is my brother.
But I decided not to pay any attention to it, instead I just walked beside Rhain.
I still couldn't believe we finally complete our mission. The part about Jessica being a traitor wasn't a surprise to me. On one of the first nights we spend with the guys I had noticed they were marked by Wicked, curiosity took the best of me as I tried to figure out what the rest of us had marked in our neck. Sadly we would never know what Riley's said, but Aaliyah had 'The Ally' marked, Emme had 'The Infected'- which later all made sense, but Jessica had none- that's why I got suspicious of her. I noticed it when she was hugging me after I saved her life, there was nothing there.
"We're here" Rhain let's us know as she pushes the door open with her foot.
It brings me back on earth as I softly shake my head, I look around until I see the phone laying on her desk. I type in the number before handing it over at Rhain, "could you do the talking, you're our leader after all" I ask her.
Honestly it was because I wasn't comfortable talking on the phone with someone, also because I don't remember ever doing it.
I was thankful when she took the phone from me.
Suddenly there was a tug on my sleeve, making me look up in confusion. I was looking the same dark eyes as mine.
"Sis can we talk for a minute" he asked me, without waiting for an answer he pulled me after him into the hallway.
I let out a soft sigh, "what is it, why are you so tense".
"It's about Newt" he said softly, immediately catching my attention, "you see he has that limp for a reason, I think that Newt has thought he wasn't immune this whole time", Minho pauses for a second before looking inside of the office to see if anyone was eavesdropping, "he was pretty depressed that at one point he tried to take his own life by halfway climbing up the walls of the maze before jumping down. Luckily he survived as only has a limp".
It feels as if all the air is sucked out of my lungs, I'm shocked to hear in what kind of state Newt has been living in the maze. It breaks my heard to hear this, it makes me realize why Newt hasn't told me this yet.
"That's horrible".
Minho grabs my wrist as he drags me a little further away, just in case.
"It doesn't end there, I saw in his file he has a sister named Elizabeth, I remember Lizzy" Minho continues with a sad smile, "the thing is, his sister is not immune. I think they made a mistake and made Newt believe he was destined to be a crank, while it's the other way around".
There was a second of silence between the two of us. I was processing my brother's words while also thinking about Newt. He would feel horrible if he learned about his sister's faith.
"We can't tell him, he would be devastated" I say softly, feeling emotional.
Here I was learning I have a brother, a healthy strong brother- and then there's Newt who has been lied to and having a sister who's doomed. As far as I know there's no cure.
"Maybe we can tell him I read that she passed away in the maze, at least he won't be looking for her" Minho suggests.
I nod in agreement, "yeah".
Right on cue Rhain, Thomas and Newt walk out of the office, they seemed to be pleased.
"Okay Hongs, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that the Right Arm is heading this way to pick us up, the bad news is that they will test us if we are immune before taking us with them".
Newt smiles, grabbing my wrist to pull me into his embrace, "I'm glad we are immune Ceylon, or is it Cheonsa" he asks with a chuckle.
"I'm glad too Newtie" I tell him with a smile as I kiss his nose, "let's go down to the others and hope everyone of them is immune, I would hate it if we have to leave people behind again".
Rhain nods, "me too, but at least we can finally rest".
Thomas grabs her hand before they take the lead in finding the way down, it was for the best. If they made me walk in front we would get lost, and this way I could cuddle up against Newt without anyone complaining.
