Spending a night in a restroom was not a thing that was on my bucket list.

Six of us crammed into a small room. I didn't know what was worse, the snoring or the fact that cranks were somewhere around in the building. Escaping this place will be a lot harder then I expected.

"Oh my God! Aaliyah get your foot out of my eye" Jessica complains.

I roll my eyes as I sit up right, "guys this is not working, this way we will kill each other before we get to Ava Paige".

My eyes wonder to Rhain who nods.

"Let's just go. We'll probably won't be getting much sleep in here".

I look over my shoulder at Emme, the only one who was actually sleeping. She looked so peacefully, and so young when she was sleeping. I just hoped that she would make it, because you never know what will happen.

"Em, wake up we're leaving" I whispered as I softly shook her awake.

Her eyes shot open, looking at me confused until she realizes what time it is. I help her stand up as we gather our bags- since Jessica was still busy stuffing her hoodie in her bag so I took the time to take a sip of my drink.

"Done yet" Aaliyah asked as she looked at her nails rather then at Jessica.

But before Jessica could complain, I could see that Rhain gave her a warning look. Which helped because the girl actually kept her mouth shut for once.

"Well then, let's go back to hell" Rhain comments when she sees everyone is done packing.

I chuckle as I look at her, "seriously hell?".

"Well it's hot, a lot of sand. It could have been hell, anyway let's go. It's always Ceylon who's distracting me" Rhain chuckles. "Okay on the count of 3" Rhain says when she's standing in front of the door.

We counted to three and then she softly opened the door, glancing around before fully opening it.

"Coast is clear".

The five of us follow our leader as we carefully make our way out of the building. It's like walking on eggshells, we're afraid some will hear us and follow us again. I did not sleep enough to keep running around like this.

Even though I used to be a runner back in the Glade, all the running these days was having a toll on me. Not just me, on all of us. Out of the six of us, I was the only runner left. That's why I got salty often, I never got the chance to figure out the maze. A part of me knows that there might have not been a way out of the maze.

We carefully made it through the last hallway before we saw the first rays of sunshine. I smiled as we finally could get some air, and not smell stinky feet while being stuck in a tiny room without any windows.

"So which way do we go now" Riley asked.

I looked around, everything looked the same, I had no idea how we could figure out where to go. It was just sand surrounding us, except for the building we had spend the night in.

"Normally I'd suggest we find a higher spot to see where to go, but I'm afraid there's still some cranks in that building and I'm not letting anyone risk their lives" Rhain said with a sigh.

"I could take a look?" I told her even though she made it very clear that she didn't want anyone of us to risk our lives in there. "I'm the only runner in our squad, I could make it".

"She just said that she didn't want any of us to risk our lives" Jessica said as she put her hand on her hip.

I roll my eyes as I look back at Rhain, "it's our best shot instead of walking around and dying in this sand hell".

Judging for the look on her face, I saw that she was thinking about it. She knows I'm right.

"I still don't approve this, but you're right" Rhain muttered as she stood in front of me, "here at leas take my gun, if you run into a crank or if you're in trouble then just shoot twice. I will not hesitate to save you".

"Thanks".

I gave the five of them a reassuring smile before walking back towards the building, maybe I have been acting more tough then I actually am in front of them.

As quietly as I could I walked into the building, hoping that I won't run into any cranks on the way to the top, since they followed us in here they might still be roaming around. Every single time I heard a noise I couldn't place I raised the gun Rhain gave me, only to figure out I made the noises myself.

I finally reached a staircase, I just hoped that it would lead me to the top. As I was walking the stairs, I realized it was a little too quiet in here. Something didn't add up.

Why does your instinct always have to be right?

Suddenly out of nowhere I heard a high pitched scream, I turn around in horror. There at the bottom of the staircase was a single crank. It seemed as if he hadn't noticed me, but standing here all day was not an option. I carefully lifted one of my legs to go up the stairs, however this had the opposite effect of what I wanted.

The crank lifted his head and started to scream again.

"I heard you the first time stupid shank" I yelled- it had already noticed me so why be quiet?

I quickly ran up the stairs, amazed by how good my condition was. Sadly so was the crank.

He was nearing me, and I didn't know what to do so I turned around and shot the crank in his forehead. It suddenly stumbled back before fully rolling down the stairs. A sigh of relief left me as I quickly ran the rest of the way up the stairs, a shiver went through my body as I realized I had to pass the dead crank on my way out.

When I ran up the last flight of stairs I came across a metal door, that I kicked open with my leg. Maybe it was because of my run up the stairs that I got some serious leg muscles, but it actually worked. I found myself on the top of the building, and I could see everything. Miles and miles of sand.

I looked over the edge and saw five little figures standing there, "guys I made it" I yelled down at them as I waved.

I knew that they had heard the gunshot earlier, and I didn't want them to worry about my safety. Besides I told them I could do it.

"Ceylon hurry up" I heard the voice of Jessica yell up at me.

I face palmed myself as I tried to stay calm, this girl is always working on my nerves. But instead of yelling back at her I looked around.

Then I notice something interesting on the horizon. Our clue of which way to go.

With a smile I turned back towards the exit, ready to tell Rhain where we should be going. Only this time I won't be walking, I'm going to run all the way towards the exit before I run into another lost crank.
