Nephele

The last day of January and the breeze has a nice chill to it. My wedding planning was going well, the closer we get the more anxious I feel under the surface. Tomorrow will be four months until the wedding, I can't wait to marry Jett, but I still feel like there's something holding me back- possibly myself because it means I am one step closer to taking over as ruler, one step closer to carrying the weight of the entire kingdom on my shoulders. Today I have off and I am spending it with Van.

"Hey baby." I coo and brush his hair back to wake him for the day. "Wake up." I plant a quick kiss on his temple and stand to pick up a warm sweater and some cute tiny slacks. I grab his little black boots and socks as well and place them on the side of his bed.

Van rubs his eyes and stares at me. "Hi Mommy."

"Time to get dressed and have some breakfast."

"Where's Daddy?"

"Daddy is taking care of grandma, she isn't feeling good today." It broke my heart to tell him, but Jett's mother has been increasingly worse and we decided to not let Van see her on the days when she is violently ill and vomiting, sadly on these days Van doesn't see his father either.

"Oh. Okay. Where is Papa?"

"Papa is in his first meeting already; he had to work early today. Is it okay that it's just a Van and Mommy day? I have no work and I cancelled your lessons."

"Yes!" Van jumps into my arms. "Let's play."

"Okay tiny cloud, but first let's get dressed and get something to eat."

"Okay Mommy." Van takes his shirt off.

"Okay." I smile and wait for him to lift his arms up so I can put on his cute little sweater. Van like's to put on his pants himself, but he always makes me help him with the sweater incase he 'gets lost.'

I grab the crush while he steps into his pants like a big boy and hand it to him after he sits on the bed. I put on his socks and his boots and we're ready for breakfast about a half hour later- we had to play with Van's toys first.

I hold Van's hand as he goes down the stairs and runs away from me into the dining room calling, "Race you, Mommy!"

I chase after him, holding my dress. When I get there I see all of my siblings, except for Zephyr who is completely moved out now. Van is hiding from me, I just don't know where he is. "Where did my son go?" I call out and wait to hear where the laughter is coming from.

"I didn't see Van come in here." Ciro plays along.

"Really? Hmmm," I scratch at my head, "how strange. I thought he ran in here for sure."

"I don't know Nephele, maybe you're losing it." Rhett smiles.

I hear Van giggle under the table.

"What was that?" I turn my head to Solana and take a large step towards the table.

"I didn't hear a thing." Solana chuckles.

"Oh well, I guess I must've lost him then. I guess he doesn't love me." I frown and take my seat. "I thought I heard my baby."

I feel something hug my legs then I hear, "I'm right here, Mommy."

I push my chair back so I can see my favorite boy's face.

"Hello." He smiles.

"There you are! Oh, I was so sad. I was such a bad mommy for losing you. I'm sorry baby. Never leave me?"
