I am more than anxious to catch up on all of my responsibilities that I had blown off yesterday. I would be stuck up in meetings all day today some with my father and some without just to make up for it. I bathed and readied as usual brushing all of the knots out of my hair and throwing a freeing powder blue gown on over my head.
Ten members of the court were all there with my father when I entered after quickly grabbing an orange for breakfast. It was the closed court which meant only the most important ten in the meetings and no advisors. Right of my father was Lord Niyol, Hand to the King and has been for over twenty years. Niyol and my father have been friends since childhood and Niyol was a family man himself which had made him a favorite of my mother as they were all the same age. Niyol and Dad are close, so close I think of him as an uncle. Next to Niyol was Windsor. Lord Windsor is a younger member and Court Adversary. Windsor has a sharp and tactical mind, but normally keeps quiet and talks minimally unless a true problem breaks out. Next to Windsor was Makani, Foreign Ambassador who I am glad is gone most of the time simply because his presence sucks all of the air dry in the room. Steward Paven is next, also known as Governor Paven, he is around my age, a year or two older maybe. Paven entered the court as a Page to an older Lord that I have long forgotten the name of. When the Lord passed Paven filled the spot since he was quick to learn all of the court's . When I was younger I had the biggest crush on Paven, he was still adorable as a man, but nothing ever happened between us and nothing ever would professionally. Besides Paven is my only Lady-in-waiting, Esen. Esen was my mother's idea, she claimed I needed a lady of my own, a companion in the court. Esen is the closest thing I have to a best friend since my days are always stuck here in court beside her. Over the years Esen and I have grown incredibly close, she has become my very own Niyol. On my right is Junen, she is a Constable that works hard maintaining the peace in the village. She's a tough woman who I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of. Junen's background is tragic, her husband and children were all slaughtered in a foreign raid on the kingdom, ever since he has been working hard to ensure safe and peace to the people so that none of them go through the horror that she did. I don't think she will ever stop fighting. She works directly under General Boreas who sits beside her. Boreas is an older man, older than my father. He has kept the position of General around twenty years since he worked all the way up from a lowly guard to get here. Next to General Boreas is Keitha our spy who is also in her late twenties along with Windsor. Keitha is beside Lord Fenton and after him is Lord Hilen, both men around my father's age with beady eyes and upturned noses. They both put on fake smiles and nod along to all that my father has to say. Fenton and Hilen both are in friends with Makani; each insufferably arrogant you would've expected them to come from the Gold Kingdom.
Today's topic was the rise in criminal activity, burglary in specific. "Shall we get to it then?" My father's voice booms as I take my seat. "We all know the robberies have gotten worse. It is now time to do something about it."
Adversary Windsor, the brains, came forward next to speak all of the specific statistics with his voice low. His solution for the problem would only later be revealed after a long discussion of everyone else trying to sort out the problem with their own ideas.
"I think we should chalk it all up to the vagrant young children." Lord Hilen spits out on my father's left. "It is clear the youths of today are running a muck and ruining this kingdom."
"It only makes sense since our rates of orphans are also on the rise." Fenton agrees from besides him.
"Other kingdoms do not have the burglaries we do, perhaps it is the children." Ambassador Makani sucks up to the two of them even though his opinion isn't needed for this particular issue. He is irrelevant.
