Nephele

"This is King Bren Waolle of the East, I'm sure you remember him." Raidyn gestures to his best friend.

"How could I forget, Bren?" I chuckle and shake my head.

"It has been years, but I was thinking the same thing." Bren smirks and winks at me before grabbing my hand and kissing it.

Jett clears his throat from behind me and steps forward to shake hands with Bren, "Jett Blackthorne, Nephele's husband. Nice to meet you."

Raidyn chuckles as Bren's face heats up and he shakes Jett's hand with an odd and awkward ease, "Pleasure."

"I'm sure." Jett forces a smile.

"Don't worry, he's married." I overhear Raidyn murmur to Jett as he pats his shoulder.

"So, it's been awhile. We didn't really get to come over and talk to you at our wedding so I apologize for that, but you seem like you're doing great." I close-lipped smile at Bren as the space widens between him and Jett.

"It's fine, I was tending to my own queen most of the night." He smirks.

I laugh and Raidyn walks over to his seat at the head of the table. "This is a rulers-only council. Since Nephele and Jett are newlywed and also new to fully ruling a kingdom, I figured that Bren and I could show you two the ropes."

Bren walks over to the opposite head of the table and sits, "Normally, Byrd would sit here, but I will be taking her place for the day and giving an example of the type of exchange that normally happens." Bren plops ungracefully into the chair.

Raidyn gives Bren a look of distaste, "Byrd will kill you if you break her chair."

Bren shrugs and Jett and I sit across from each other in the middle seat of the table.

Raidyn and Bren stare across the table at each other in complete silence for a couple of minutes before I clear my throat and speak up, "Is....is this it?"

"Yep, King and Queen do not discuss matters in front of a council in public, private discussions are preferred to show a unified front- although, you always can speak up to suggest or back the other- supporting each other is equally as important as appearing unified." Raidyn says simply before standing up from his seat and the rest of us follow.

"What now?" Jett asks.

"You know, Nephele, I never realized how much you and Raven resemble one another." Bren comments.

"We don't really." I say confused. "I think she looks much more like Raidyn and Aunt Daphne than Uncle Milo and my father....we do get that a lot though."

"Hmm." Bren hums disagreeing. "Both gorgeous." He shrugs and then smiles at Jett who is rolling his eyes.

"Like I was saying...where are we going now?" Jett says to Raidyn.

"There's an official meeting right after this, I just didn't want you two to sit in and make fools out of yourselves." Raidyn replies. "Uncle Zephyr actually gave me a quota for you two; at least one meeting you two have to sit in on a day." He shakes his head.

"Doesn't that sound fun?" Jett nudges me in the ribs.

"Welcome to the life of a king, Jett." Bren replies.

"We'll have more than that in our kingdom- I have sat in on meetings for years now...I am not thrilled." I sigh.

"Just because your father ruled that way doesn't mean you will have to, you can have as many meetings as you want." Raidyn gives me a pointed look.
