A Mother's Death

Nikko awoke to see Tsunade healing him. "Who are you?" he asked.

"I'm the Fifth Hokage" Tsunade said, "Tsunade Senju, at your service."

"Wait," Nikko said, "Senju? Like First Hokage Hashirama Senju?"

"Yup," Tsunade said.

Nikko sat up abruptly. "It's an honor to meet you," he said. He then noticed the paper swans. "Who folded those swans?" he asked.

Tsunade turned around to see Yakama take shape. "I came here to kill you, Nikko Uchiha," Yakama said, "but I've changed my mind."

Tsunade stood up and turned around. "Who are you?" she asked.

"Do you remember that orphan girl you saved during the Third Great Ninja War?" Yakama asked, "I'm her daughter."

Tsunade's eyes widened. "You're so young. She's still alive?"

"No," Yakama said, "Not anymore."

"When did she die?" Tsunade asked.

"Nevermind that," Yakama said, "I'd like to help you kill Itachi Uchiha, Nikko."

"Why?" Nikko asked.

"Because I can sense your chakra. It's almost palpable." Something unnatural is inside of him, Yakama thought.

"Lady Hokage," Nikko said, "As an ANBU captain, I advise against turning down this offer. I can sense her chakra just as she can sense mine. It's strong."

"If I'm not mistaken," Tsunade said, "You already have a mission. You're to hunt down the Seven Swordsman of the Mist."

"It was you who was doing that?" Yakama said, "You're that powerful?"

Nikko nodded. "Kisame Hoshigaki, one of the remaining Swordsmen, is travelling with Itachi."

"Very well," Tsunade said, "Your mission remains the same. Hunt down Kisame Hoshigaki and kill Itachi Uchiha if the chance arises. You may take. . ."

"Yakama," the girl answered.

"Yakama," continued Tsunade, "and one other ninja."

"I volunteer," Hanime said, leaning against the wall beside the window.

"When did you get there?" Nikko asked.

"He's been there since before I started healing you," Tsunade said.

"You and I have unfinished business, Nikko," Hanime said.

Konan plucked the paper swan from the air and unfolded it. She read the note and smiled. "Pain, our catalyst is in her position."

Pain stood up. "Good," he said, "Nikko will soon join our ranks then."

"Do you really think he can unlock the Rinnegan?" Konan asked.

"That remains yet to be seen," Pain said, "but Madara seems to think so, therefore it's too risky to let him just roam free. Better to either kill him or add him to our ranks."

Konan nodded and stepped out into the rain.

"Someone just entered my rain," Pain said, "They're powerful."

"I'm on it," Konan said.

Rima sighed when Konan took shape before her. "So you sent an assassin after my son," she said.

"I did," Konan said, "You shouldn't have come. You're going to die here, Rima."

Rima formed an Elemental Fury in each hand. "Let's see you try, Konan," she said, "It's a shame. We used to be friends."

"It is," Konan said, "Such a shame."

The two of them made their moves.

Pain watched the battle. He watched Konan back Rima into a corner. He watched Konan kill Rima.

"And so our main obstacle is removed from our path," he said, "Such a shame. I liked Rima, even if she didn't agree with our plan."

"It's almost over then," Konan said, "We'll soon have the boy."

"This is the place," Yakama said, gesturing to the Hidden Rain, "The person who can train you is here."
