Atonement

Nikko drove an elemental Devastation through Obito's chest.

"How?" Obito asked.

Nikko's right eye closed. "Izanagi," he said, "Have you forgotten?"

Obito jumped back and healed himself with a truthseeker orb. He took a moment to catch his breath. "No shame in taking measures early," Obito said.

Obito spit out the ten-tails. Then, the Divine Tree sprouted. It reached for shinobi all across the battlefield. It grabbed shinobi after shinobi.

Nikko sighed. "I leave Obito to you, Naruto and Sasuke," he said, "I'll save as many as I can from this tree." He then took off to cut the vines of the Divine Tree.

Hanime assisted him.

The Akatsuki duo cut vine after vine, but there seemed to be no end to them. Nikko gasped when the FIve Kage arrived. "I thought you'd all died," he said.

"You thought wrong," Tsunade said, "So how and when did you die?"

"I sacrificed myself to try and seal Ten-tails with the Reaper Death Seal," Nikko said, "It, uh, didn't work."

Nikko felt more power in his eyes. "I see," he said, "My Rinnegan has finally returned to me."

He looked to the tree. A vine was reaching for him. "Almighty push!"

The vine was pushed back and snapped off of the tree. Nikko clapped his hands together and looked to the floating meteor he'd created. If I can block the tree's eye with it, I can buy this world all the time it needs, he thought.

Nikko looked to the tree. He used his Rinnegan's control over gravity to move the meteor to just above the tree.

"There," he said, "Now we've all the time in the world."

Nikko began to cut the roots of the Divine Tree. He cut one root before Obito took notice. The boy dodged a vine. Nikko ducked under another vine and cut a root.

It was then that Obito pulled Naruto and Sasuke down through the roots of the Divine Tree.

Yakama stood next to Nikko. "Let's go," she said, "We've got to stop Obito."

Nikko nodded and jumped into the hole after Obito. The boy rushed forward and dodged the Sword of Nunoboko. He then hit Obito with a Sage Mode enhanced Elemental Devastation.

Then, the tailed-beasts' chakra started to pull itself from Obito's body. Nikko and Naruto grabbed on and pulled. They ripped the tailed-beasts free.

"We did it!" Naruto said.

Nikko smiled. "Now that they're free," he said, "Let's deal with the Gedo Statue."

Obito formed the Snake hand sign. "Gedo Art of Rinne Rebirth," he said.

Nikko stood over Obito. "Such a shame," he said, "You controlled Ten-tails so well. You'd have made an excellent shinobi." He sighed. "I saw everything that happened. I watched Naruto talk to you. I saw your true colors."

Nikko stopped Sasuke from killing Obito. "Wait, Sasuke," Nikko said, "Not yet. Let's hear what he has to say."

"Rin was my sole light and hope in this dark world," Obito said, "When I lost Rin, my view of the whole world as it was changed. The world became a black pit of despair."

Nikko nodded and turned away. "I leave you to Kakashi and Minato," he said, "It's about time I get back to a living body."

Nikko walked toward where Hanime had left his body. How am I going to do this? he asked himself.

The young Otsutsuki sat down and pondered what to do for a moment. He sighed when he found no answer. "I suppose I'm stuck like this for now," he said.

It was then that Obito was forced to use the Rinne Rebirth.

Nikko gasped as his body became real. His eyes started to fall out.

"Here," Hanime said, appearing beside Nikko, "These are yours." He deposited Nikko's eyes into his palm.

"Thank you," Nikko said. He infused his eyes back into his skull. "I wonder why Obito revived me too."

"He was forced to revive Madara by Black Zetsu," he said, "In a final attempt at atoning for his misdeeds, he revived you too."

"Nikko!" Yakama said, hugging the boy, "You're alive again!"

Nikko hugged Yakama back. "I'm glad to see you've survived this long," he said, "However, we have to kill Madara now while we have the chance."

Nikko released Yakama and she released him. The Akatsuki trio stood there for a moment. "Well," Nikko said, "Let's get going then."
