The Hunt

Nikko froze up when Ameyuri turned toward his and Ukimora's hiding spot. She smiled and threw her blades at the pair. Ukimora jumped out of the way, but Nikko remained frozen. Fear held him in place.

Ukimora grit his teeth and threw a kunai at Ameyuri's blade, knocking it off course moments before it skewered Nikko in the chest. He landed on a tree branch and launched himself at the female swordsman.

Ameyuri sidestepped Ukimora's attack. She kicked toward his side, but he blocked the attack. He jumped back as her blades returned to her.

"It seems your partner is too afraid to move," Ameyuri said.

Nikko grit his teeth. Come on, he thought, Move! Fight!

Ukimora drew his sword and rushed forward. Ameyuri blocked his swing and smiled. Lightning coursed up her blade. Ukimora barely let go of his own in time.

"You're fun," Ameyuri said, "Let me just make sure we don't have anyone interfere with my little meal." She jumped toward Nikko, winking at Ukimora as she did.

Ukimora locked eyes with her. Mikon, he thought. She continued to fall through the air, missing Nikko.

He used his kekkei genkai, Nikko thought.

Ukimora fell to his knees and coughed up blood, his mask coming off. Ameyuri looked up and smiled. "You're a tricky one," she said. She ran toward him.

Nikko overcame his fear and threw a marked kunai at Ameyuri. She turned around and blocked it. Nikko teleported himself to the kunai and stabbed Ameyuri while she was still surprised.

She stumbled back a few steps, right onto Ukimora's own blade. She died on his sword.

"Sorry I took so long," Nikko said, "It won't happen again."

"See that it doesn't," Ukimora said as he wiped the blood from his mouth, "I'll check her mind for any information on the others shortly. Then we've got to dispose of her."

Nikko nodded and turned to the trees. "I'll watch for potential threats," he said.

Ukimora spoke the hand signs as he wove them, "Dog, dragon, ox, horse, snake. ANBU Secret Interrogation Technique: Brain Scan." He ran through her memories and found what he was looking for in a little under ten minutes. "Got it. We're off to the Land of Stone."

Nikko nodded and the pair set off. For seven months they hunted down the swordsmen. All the way until the only three left were Zabuza Momochi, Kisame Hoshigaki, and Raiga Kurosuki.

While they hunted, Nikko and Ukimora grew close. They'd talk at night before sleeping and watch each other's backs during the day. Whenever one of the pair would get too beat up by the swordsmen, the other would practically throw themselves in front of the enemies blades.

Nikko's skills improved as well. By the time they learned where Zabuza was, he could almost keep pace with Ukimora during their training sessions. His skills with Flying Raijin grew exponentially as well. He got faster with the jutsu and it began to take less chakra from him.

The ANBU pair used the mist to hide as they approached the bridge. The sounds of combat rang clear as they got close. Nikko placed his markers and nodded at Ukimora.

Ukimora and Nikko each threw eight shuriken at Zabuza. He noticed them coming and blocked them with his blade. Neither of the ANBU were surprised. It hadn't worked on any of the swordsmen before.

Nikko made his move. Rat, tiger, dog, ox, rabbit, tiger, he thought as he wove his hand signs, Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu!

Zabuza used the Water Dragon Jutsu to block the attack. Ukimora rushed forward and swung his blade at Zabuza. Haku intercepted the blade.
