i walked in an old record shop
which didn't occupy much people
it smelled like dust and smoke
with a hint of cherry and vanilla
much like your car

during our time together
i often played music
from the 60s-90s
because my parents would
play it throughout the house

my parents knew how fond i was
of the music they played
and their culture
i wasn't alive for quite yet

i'm sure you didn't understand
my liking for that kind of stuff
but you smiled and listened to it
with me anyways

i wonder what you're up to now
if you've had any fun adventures without me
i shook my head
trying to shake the thoughts of you

i walked throughout the rest of the shop
until i got somewhat close to the back corner
which held what i was looking for

then i heard a song
that played in your car
that night we drove out
to somewhere i don't remember

you couldn't dance very well
but you still asked me to dance
just because you knew i liked the song

i took a breath and i shut my eyes slowly
because everytime you come into my mind
i try to push away each thought about us

my hands were shaking
and i missed you
i put the record that i took out back
and thanked the elderly man
who owned the shop
and walked out

still mumbling the words of the song :

and they called it puppy love
oh, i guess they'll never know
how a young heart feels
and why i love you so
