The inside of the city was nothing like the vendors on its doorstep. The vendors were warm and bursting with life. People moved everywhere and made it a point to speak to you. Inside the kingdom, everyone kept their eyes dropped to the ground never attempting to make eye contact or utter a word. Alex prowled through the crowd with a sense of confidence I had no clue how he maintained. In this place I felt powerless, I was powerless. Maybe Alex was right, mother keeping us locked away made us too naive to the world. I glanced over my shoulder to Sebastian who seemed to calm entirely down. Oddly enough he blended in with the aura of the city. Keeping his eyes cast to the ground he followed us by the sound of our feet.
"So, tell me about the Boss as a child," Firestar said as wrapped his arm over my shoulder. He smelled of cinnamon and ash, an odd combination. Alex glanced back at us amused by his partner's interest in him.
"Well, first he was taller back then," I said as I removed Firestar arm from around me. He and Scarlet begin to roar with laughter, while Alex didn't seem too pleased by the joke.
"Oddly enough I believe that." Firestar swirled as he jumped forward to stand beside Alex. The height difference between the two was also comical. Alex glanced up at Firestar and rolled his eyes.
"Enough with the jokes, my lack of powers do not change a thing." Firestar let up a little bit to the point he was walking beside us. Firestar and I were almost eyes to eye. I must have grown a decent amount the couples of months.
"So, high strung all the time," Firestar said as he fell into pace beside me. His body radiated a heat that contrasted the breeze from the ocean smoothly. A question jumped into my mind, and I didn't care if Alex would get annoyed of me asking.
"I think a better question is, why do you follow my brother around." As soon as the question left my lips, I waited for Alex to turn around but he didn't. Firestar rose his eyes to the sky and appeared to reminisce. Collecting his thoughts, he turned his attention back ahead.
"He gave me a purpose; Before I met him, I searched the land looking for anyone that would push me to my limits. The boss is the only person ever to beat me. Instead of finishing me, He asked me to join him to help him.." Alex stopped and turned to Firestar silencing him.
"That will be enough," Alex said as he turned to keep walking. Firestar nodded and kept walking, Scarlet raised an eyebrow at me, and I returned the gesture. Suddenly Alex took a hard left down a side alley. We all followed suit with Metal and Steel bringing up the rear. With a slight nod of his head Metal rose a hand in front of him a wall of earth shot from the ground blocking the ally from the rest of the city. I opened my mouth to ask what was the problem when Alex rose a hand to my mouth to silence us.
On the other side of the newly crafted wall, voices begin to sound, confused by the wall.
"I thought they turned here." said one voice.
"I guess not; we have to hurry and find them. Commander Windlace wants us to bring them to him." the other voice responded. At the mention of the Davis, my heart stuttered. I pulled on my powers for comfort and came up with nothing. I felt Scarlet's hand slide into mine, although she didn't have her powers the gesture still had the calming effect it intended. Alex cleared his throat and pointed to the back of the alley. Standing on the far wall was a ladder leading to an unseen place. Firestar took the ladder first scaling it with ease and grace, followed by the rest of us. Metal and Steel still brought up the rear. On top of the building, my breath caught in my chest. Although the inside of the kingdom was cold and dark, the scenery didn't match in the slightest. Blue crystal towers reflected the sun over the entire Providence. The building seemed to reach into the sky extending far beyond my eyesight. To the far right of the city a bridge reached into the distance. Metal pillars held up a sign reading Emerald Isle. I opened my mouth to ask when Alex answered the question before it could escape my lips.
