We broke the clearing with more than twenty minutes to spare. Sebastian and Scarlet both dropped to the ground fighting hard to catch their breath. The new clothes that we picked up in town was seeped in sweat from the sprint we had to partake in just to get home before sun set. The wind carried the smell of Xandra to me causing me to raise from hunched over position to look her in the face. Although her face was slack of emotion her eyes sung a song amusement that I didn't quite understand.
"For a second I didn't think you would make it." She said as she finally closed the distance between us. Glancing over her shoulder I saw Zae and Mal seated around the center of camp. Dirty stained both of their faces as they consumed what ever food Xandra had prepared for us,
"Yeah, me either. A small detail to include next time you send us to retrieve gear from a city would be that our powers don't works inside the boarders." I said as I attempted to step around Xandra. An astonished look crossed her face quickly replaced by a look I couldn't quite read.
"You didn't know your powers wouldn't work inside of the city?" She said as she reached a hand out for my shoulder. I guess our mother did courpt us keeping us locked away from the world.
"I had no idea," I responded, side stepping her touch. I headed for the center of the camp where everyone else was positioned so I wouldn't have to tell the story more than once when Xandra appeared at my side again.
"Well at least you made it there and back," Xandra said as he attempted to keep pace with me. I increased my foot fall trying to ignore her. Out of my peripheral, I saw her reach another hand out for me. Before I could think about it, I side stepped her again.
"Please don't," I said as I held a hand up to her. Her face quickly transformed to a facade of hurt promptly masked with a confused look. I almost felt bad, almost.
"Azari, how was I to know that you were unaware of the nullifiers in the city. " Xandra said as she replaced her hand back at her side. Not daring to answer her, I increased my speed. The heated conversation that took place between me and Xandra caused the eyes of everyone including Mal to fall on us. I felt my face grow hot as I had finally closed the distance. Xandra's hand reached out and cupped my shoulder, her touch under normal circumstanced would make my knees turn to jelly, this time not so much. Whipping my body away from her I turned to face her. I was close enough to Zae and everyone else for them to hear me and my head was full of more than enough to say. Xandra's face shifted from a caring look to a look of annoyance which only seemed to fuel my rage.
"What's your problem?" She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at me. She had opened up a flood gate and hadn't even known it.
"My problem is that you almost got us killed." I said gesturing to Sebastian and Scarlet. Not giving her time to respond I finished my thought. "You are supposed to be this wise teacher, yet you sent us off to Tidewater Kingdom without any information. You didn't tell us our powers wouldn't work, or that God brothers would have a headquarters right inside of the gate door. If it hadn't been for Alex and his friends we would have never made it back from this mission." As my thought finished I raked a hand through my hair and let out a deep breath. With the mention of Alex, Zae stood to his feet and placed himself to Xandra's rear. The words seemed to be seeping into her as she appeared to be unable to respond. The air around us started to drop-in temperature as Xandra started to clinch her jaw.
"It is not my fault, that you didn't know about the Kingdoms, It's common knowledge from my understanding. It's not my fault you almost lost your lives to the Godbrothers; you should have been able to hide with all the training we do here." as Xandra finished talking she uncrossed her arms and turned to storm away. I wasn't done by any means.
