Alyssa's P.O.V

"I'm telling you, she needs to know that she can't just keep doing things like this and getting aw..."

I walked in at that exact moment. From the tension in the atmosphere, it seemed like they were having a very heated argument. Mom was sitting on the couch with her arms folded, while dad was sitting on the arm rest. I'm guessing Ivan had already left for school.

Good. I wouldn't want to him to hear the shouting match which was definitely going to go down this fine morning. I can't believe he was still pushing that outrageous idea of getting me punished!

"Morning." I said, making my face devoid of any emotion. "I see you're still planning my punishment."

"What you did last night was unacceptable." He stated.

"Unacceptable? So you walk out on my life and it's acceptable but when I do it it's not? That's a real shitty double standard."

Mom cleared her throat, while I mentally prepared myself for the talk. "Look honey, I'm not even going to ask where you've been. What I need to know is why you're doing all of this. Alyssa I specifically told you to stay out of trouble. Is that too much to ask?"

The look on her face was enough to make me realise how distressed she'd been. All because of me. I felt that tug in my stomach I usually did whenever I was feeling bad about my actions.

"No. No it's not. I'm really sorry for not listening to you." I apologized, intentionally specifying that I was only referring to her and not dad. Then I turned my attention to him. "And dad, I'm sorry too."

He seemed genuinely surprised, but I wasn't finished just yet. There were still things I needed to get off my mind and chest. "I'm sorry that you just can't accept that you don't matter as much in this family anymore. I'm sorry for the pathetic life you chose over us and sorry that you can't realise all of this,"

"Alyssa..." mom called in a warning voice. I held up my hands in submission.

"Please mom, just let me finish. Dad, you were once my hero, literally. Remember when I used to call you superdad, then you'd fly me around the house on your shoulders?" I let out a bitter chuckle. "Now I know some superheroes lose their powers, and that's exactly what happened to you dad. But unlike you, those superheroes didn't give up even if they didn't necessarily get their powers back. I understand that the marriage wasn't working and I don't give a flying fuck about Christine, but what I don't understand is why it affected Ivan and I. I guess we just got caught up in the messed up situation and none of that can be taken back, but I wish things were a little bit different and I might've hated you a lot less." I let out a shaky breath after the last word. That was some speech.

"Alyssa-"

"No, you don't have to say anything. I'll just go up to my room and let you both sort out whatever it is that needs to be sorted."

My mind was a roller coaster. I held on to the stair bannister, steadying myself as I climbed up to my room. Once in, I collapsed on my bed with a long sigh. I can't believe I just said all that. Maybe it was for the best. My phone began ringing at that moment.

I sat up on my elbow to check the caller ID. It was Cameron, and as soon as my brain registered that, I began to feel nervous.

Dang emotions.

What was he going to think? Probably that I was weird, because if it were me, I'd think exactly that. I pinched the bridge of my nose in annoyance at myself. The phone kept on ringing. Here goes.

"Hey? Alyssa?"

"Hi Cameron." I gulped, and turned to lie on my back.

"Uh, I heard what happened... are you grounded?"
