ALYSSA'S P.O.V
"So next class, we might be having a little test, although I might still change my mind but you slackers still have to read, okay? Good day". smiled Mrs Nelson, our english teacher.
I smiled at her joking tone, stood up, gathered my books and walked outside where Rowan and Shannon were waiting for me.
"I hope she's kidding," said Rowan.
"She totally is. Mrs Nelson is chill, right Alyssa?" Shannon faced me.
"Uhh, yeah, totally." I mumbled. They both gave me weird looks but I was to busy thinking to notice it.
It's been two days since I skyped mom.
Two days since I saw dad.I've been thinking about what we talked about, our promise... and it just doesn't make any sense. Why would she tell us to promise? Did she know something? Was she hiding some huge secret from us? Did dad know we were gonna talk to her? I've even caught myself imagining things I shouldn't... things...
"Alyssa? Are you there?" Shannon waved her hand in front of my face, jolting me out of my thoughts.
"Huh? Yeah, yeah." I replied fumbling with my locker.
"You sure? You kinda zoned out. What was the last question we asked?" Rowan smirked.
"Something about class?" I guessed.
"Nice try. We asked for what you have next?" Shannon chuckled, opening her locker on my left. Rowan's was on my right.
I sighed and checked. "Chemistry."
"Cool, me too. Shannon?"
"Ugh. Geography." she muttered. "I gotta go, later."
"Kay. C'mon Aly"
"Uhh, you just go on and save us seats. I gotta use the bathroom. Had one too many milkshakes at lunch." I handed her my books.
"TMI," she wrinkled her nose, collecting the books. "And I warned you. Just hurry."
I rolled my eyes. "Five minutes."
---
The cool water ran on my hands. I didn't really want to use the bathroom, just wanted to clear my head a bit. I can't keep zoning out or else one of them's going to find out and it's not like they don't know about my parents, or Christine, but it's just a sour topic for me. I closed the tap and put my wet hands on my face when I heard footsteps approaching.
Wouldn't want anyone thinking I was some kind of weirdo, being alone and just running water on my hands.
A girl walked in, but I didn't turn to look because I was drying my hands. When I did turn she was just standing by the door, arms folded, staring at me.
Okaaayy...
I gave an uncertain smile. "Hey, are you alright? Did you lose your way or something?"
Wow, what a brilliant question, Alyssa.
The girl just walked up until she was standing underneath one of the lights, with an almost sinister smile. I could see her clearly. It was like she was trying to say 'do you recognise me now?'
Come to think of it her face does look familiar... that brownish blonde hair.... hazel eyes... I know she's in my grade... what was her name again? Fran? Freya? Freida? I know for sure it began with an 'F'.
"What a convenient place to cross paths, right?" she asked.
Faye? Yeah, Faye!
"In the girls bathroom?" my brows furrowed in confusion. "I mean yeah, if you have a bathroom fetish." I replied sarcastically.
