Without caring about anything, Aparna came running down the stairs just as the building started to shake badly. She reached Nishant and took him in her arms.

"Nishant!" she shouted shaking him hard trying to wake him up.

But he did not move an inch. As she hugged him to herself, she felt something sticky wetting her palm. She looked at it and her eyes widened the moment she saw blood.

"Nishant, please open your eyes," she pleaded just as Dhruv came to her side.

Madhu slipped to the ground with Prakriti who was still unconscious. Urgently she poured some water on her face but she did not wake up. She looked at Aparna and shook her head.

Helplessly Aparna looked from Nishant to Prakriti. As minutes ticked by, a desperate and desolate feeling started to settle inside her. She kept on calling them beckoning both to open their eyes but nothing happened.

Avinash came running inside the lane announcing that the ambulance had arrived. One of the men picked up Prakriti and some others came with a stretcher to carry Nishant.

As they slowly removed Nishant's head from her lap, suddenly her horizons clouded, darkening each and everything, making her feel empty. It was as if they were taking him away from her forever. Instinctively, she clutched his hand and stood up. She did not even let go of it as they loaded him inside.

The ambulance started to move towards the hospital and she clutched both Nishant's and Prakriti's hand in each of hers and pleaded with them to wake up.

***************

Aman Gupta was already waiting outside the hospital when the ambulance arrived. Siraj and his men got out of the car first and cleared the gathered media. The stretchers came out and instantly were taken inside.

Just as Aparna came out of the ambulance, she was surrounded by reporters asking all sorts of random questions. But she heard nothing. Her only thought was Prakriti and Nishant. She tried her best to follow them inside but couldn't because of the crowding media.

Siraj came to her rescue and just as she was about to step inside, one of the reporters shouted through the ruckus:

"Ms. Mathur, did you do all this for money?"

Transfixed, she looked around at the person but couldn't answer. Siraj somehow managed to drag her inside but the question kept on whirling in her mind till the time she reached the corridor where Dhruv, Madhu, and Harish were standing.

It was more than 1 hour since Prakriti and Nishant had been taken inside but till now there was no news. All of them were slowly losing their patience specially Aparna. She kept on pacing up and down trying hard not to think anything worst.

The doctor who had been attending Prakriti came out and they all rushed to him.

"She is okay. No major injuries, just some cuts and bruises here and there, so no need to worry. She is just a little shaken up. I have given her a sedative. It's best to let her sleep right now. You can see her after an hour."

Aparna breathed hard hearing about her daughter.

Thank god!

"How is Nishant," she asked with a small voice.

"Well, I don't know. But I'll check," replied the doctor and went to the operation theatre.

Just as the door closed behind him, Aparna's heart banged against her chest with a thud.

Oh, please don't let anything happen to him.

She turned towards operation theatre and rested her back against the wall.

Come back to me, please. I need you more than anything else, she mentally told him.

The doctor came out and they instantly rushed towards him.

"He is a little critical. A concrete piece has gone inside his back on the left. We have managed to get it out but some broken portions are still inside. We are still in the process of removing those. Plus he has lost a lot of blood from the glass wound on his abdomen. Let's hope for the best."

Aparna staggered back hearing the doctor. She was about to collapse when Dhruv caught her in his arms. He made her sit down on the chair and walked a little away.

Nothing made sense. How did Kavin get hold of Madhu and Prakriti? Why did Naresh Uncle call off the security?

Madhu sat down next to Aparna and clutched her shaking body in her arms. Suddenly she saw Siraj walking briskly towards Dhruv. He said something to him and then Dhruv came running towards Aparna.

Grabbing her hands in his, Dhruv pulled Aparna up and said in a low voice, "Don't stay here. I'll have Siraj take you to a safe place."

Surprised, she looked at him and shook her head.

"I am not leaving Nishant alone."

Somehow, Dhruv lost his patience. Breathing hard, he pressed her hands hard in his and implored, "Please listen to what I say. Please, get out of here."

"No. I am not going anywhere. He will want to see me the moment he wakes up. I am not leaving."

"Aparna Ma'am, please," Siraj pleaded, time and again glancing down the corridor.

"I said I am not going anywhere. I am not leaving him alone. Nishant needs me."

"Nishant does not need you. He needs his family. It's because of you, he is in this state," Naresh Naik said with gritted teeth.

Aparna turned and stared at him. Nishant is in here because of her?

She was about to say something when Meera Naik came up to her and started to drag her by her arm.

"Get out of here before I ask the security to throw you out. He is my son. He is a Naik. Filth like you, don't deserve a place in Nishant Naik's life."

Aparna staggered and hit her back on the wall. Madhu tried to steady her but she brushed away her hand.

"You are one of those women who never stay with one man. First, it was your husband now it is Nishant."

"Aunty, please," Dhruv said gesturing to Siraj to take Aparna away.

"You just shut up. I will not tolerate all this anymore. It's enough now. She wants money and we will give her money. Vikrant, just pay her whatever she wants and get rid of her."

Tears streamed down Aparna's eyes as she heard Nishant's mother.

Money? Is it all that is worth?

She stood there not moving an inch. She will not leave Nishant no matter what they say.

Naresh Naik saw her standing and lost his temper.

"You are still here? Get out now."

Just then a nurse called her name.

"Your daughter is looking for you."

Slowly Aparna started to move towards Prakriti's room when she heard Nishant's mother say:

"That bastard should have killed her daughter earlier. Then all of this wouldn't have happened."
