Elena's POV:

''Elena! You better hurry up if you don't wanna be late for the party!'' Aunt Jenna yells from downstairs as I struggle to hurry to get ready.

I roll my eyes and say nothing back. She knows that I take a long time to get ready and should probably be used to it by now.

Tonight's the ''getting to know my classmate's party'' at the high school.

I think it's a stupid idea. I already know everybody. I'm not a freshman, I'm a sophomore so why am I being forced to go to this?

Oh well, maybe it will get my mind off my parents for a little while. It seems that now a days all I can is think about them.

Could they of been saved? Why was I saved? How did I get out of the water? Who took me to the hospital? So many unanswered questions that I just keep thinking about that I will probably never have the answer too.

My younger brother, Jeremy, hates going to partie's and he's a freshman this year. I really wanted him to come along with me but he refused. Typical him.

It just happens to be a costume party tonight too, which makes it even worse because I have to make a total fool of myself in my doctor's costume.

I put on my shoes, say goodbye to Jenna and Jeremy and get into my car to take the drive up to the highschool.

I hope tonight's going to be a good night.

Stefan's POV:

Tonight's my getting to know everyone party tonight at Mystic Falls High. It's kind of like a party but also a dance. Most people don't dance though, especially me. I hate dancing and always have and I don't think I will ever grow to like it.

I guess I probably should go to this thing. I'm that 'new sophomore' at the high school and don't really know anyone.

I've lived in Mystic Falls before. My Uncle Zach lives here in a big house. I come here every year to visit, but I have decided to stay here more than just visiting and live here with him for a while. Try and be a normal human, not a vampire.

It's a costume party. I decided to be funny and be a vampire. How original, but I have nothing else to wear.

I put on my 'costume' and get on my motorcycle to head up there.

Once I arrive, I see Elena.

She's dressed as a sexy nurse, and she sure does play the role well.

She's pretty much the only person I know at the high school so far, except her friend Bonnie who I saw walking in the hallway with her.

She's standing by a tree all alone, drinking, so now it's my time to go up and talk to her.

''Hey, Elena, is it?'' I say, pretending that I don't know her name yet.

''Yeah, it's Elena, and your name is Stefan, right?'' She replies.

I smile and she takes that as a yes.

''Are you new here this year? I don't think I've ever seen you before, like Freshman year or anything.''

''Yeah, this is my first year at Mystic Falls High School, I don't live up here unless I'm visiting my Uncle Zach, but I'm here permently for a while, so might as well be enrolled in school.'' I say.

We chat for a little while more, sharing some laughs and some smiles because I notice a tall, blonde boys with very bright blue eyes come up to her and kind of put his arm around her.

''Oh hey Matt, have you met Stefan yet?'' She says, obviously knowing this boy.

''Uh, no, I don't think we've met before. Matt Donovan.''

''Stefan Salvatore. Nice to meet you. Elena, I should get going, I didn't know that you were already interested in somebody.'' I say, eyeing the arm around Elena's waist.

''Me and Matt? Oh no no, we broke up last year. We're just friends.'' She says.

Just friends.

He takes my gesture and removes his hand from were it was. He takes a sip of his drink, probably now feeling a little awkward. They must have a bad past or something.

''Well nice seeing you tonight, Elena, you look beautiful as always.'' Matt says as he kisses her cheek and walks away.

''Just friends?'' I say looking at her.

''I promise we are, he just had a hard time getting over me, that's all too it, I swear.'' She says acting all innocent.

''Good.'' I say, not realizing the words that just left my mouth.

''Good?'' She says, blushing.

I smile at her for a minute and then open my mouth to say something else that probably came out a little too soon then I wanted it too. Just a heat of the moment kid of thing.

''Do you maybe wanna get together sometime? Go out to eat or something?'' I say.

''I would love that.'' She says.

I'm shocked but happy about her response.

''Hey, do you like dancing?'' She says, noticing that more people are getting up on the dance floor.

''Uh, I'm not really much of a dancer.'' I say, not wanting to dance really at all.

She looks down for a moment, probably a little dissapointed.

''But if I got to dance with you, maybe then I wouldn't hate it so much.'' I say, putting my hand out hoping for her to take it in response.

We walk out to the dancer floor, and she has a huge smile on her face.

As soon as we walk there, a slow song starts to play and we look at each other for a brief moment because she puts her head down on my shoulder. I take the response to put my hands around her waist.

We just rock back and forth for a couple minutes, but I wish it lasted forever.

The music stops and I notice everyone starting to pack up and get ready to leave. I probably should start heading home soon as well.

Elena and myself look at each other after the dance and she kisses me on the cheek.

''I think we should get going, but I'm going to give you my number, so whenever you wanna do that dinner date you asked me about earlier, you can just send me a text or call.'' She says, getting a piece of paper out of her purse to write the number down.

We exchange numbers and I give her a hug that I wish lasted forever.

We go our seperate ways home, and all I can do on the way to my house is think about her.

I love seeing the good in people. All I saw in Katherine was evil. But now I got to look at someone who looked so much like her, but see the good.

Not once tonight did Katherine pop into my head and that was a good thing, because Elena is nothing like Katherine.

She was Elena and I couldn't wait to see her again.
