Elena's POV:
I woke up and didn't realize where I was. I was sitting at my kitchen table and the oven clock read 3:12am.
I looked down at thet table after rubbing my eyes and realized that I fell asleep doing my makeup work.
I got most of the work done in one night which was more than I thought I was going to get done. Only problem was I drooled a little bit on my Math homework. Oh well.
I picked up the papers quickly and shoved them back into my bookbag before heading upstairs to be in my own bed, and not having my head lay on the hard, wood table.
Before I closed my eyes to fall back to sleep, I reached over to my phone and had 5 unread text messages, all from the same person, Stefan.
''Babe, are you awake?''
''Guess you're sleeping....''
''Or are you? Hope you're dreaming of me ;)''
''Well goodnight beautiful. Sleep tight.''
''I love you.''
All 5 messages made me smile, but it was too early in the morning to reply to him, and he's a pretty light sleeper so the ringing of a text would probably wake him.
I went back to sleep until it was time to get up for school.
I woke up again at 6:43am which was only about 15 minutes before I usually get up for school, so I went downstairs and started the coffee pot.
I got out my cup and poured some into it and sat down and sipped until it was all gone. I wasn't really a coffee person but it was nice to have sometimes.
When I was finished, I went upstairs to get dressed and got my bookbag and Stefan was waiting for me in the driveway.
I got inside and he leaned over and kissed me with full force.
''What was that for?'' I said once he pulled away.
''Just happy to see you. Did you go to sleep early last night? I texted you a few times.''
I told him about how I was sitting at the table when I passed out doing my work.
I had my work inside my bookbag and finished everything except the work that Mr. Simon gave me, which sucked because I had him first period but I was so uninteresed in history.
''Elena, do you have your work?'' Those were Mr. Simon's first words when he saw me walk into the classroom.
''Nope, i'll have it soon, promise.'' I replied.
He shook his head.
I sat down at my usual desk in the front and Stefan took his seat in the back. Bonnie finally came and took a seat in the desk right next to me. I'm glad we were able to freely choose our seats in this class, but too bad I didn't know Stefan well enough at the beggining of the year or we coud of had the chance to be by each other.
''Hey, girl.'' Bonnie said. ''Someone has a birthday coming up this week.''
''Ah, birthdays. I don't really care much about them anymore. Just another year older.''
''Elena Gilbert! You have always been a birthday person, you always enjoyed when this time of year would come, and now you don't like them?'' She said.
''Not that I don't enjoy them, just not that little kid anymore.'' I replied, realizing that I was growing up before my own eyes.
''So class..'' Mr. Simon said, making mine and Bonnie's conversation end. ''We're going to have a class project. You can be with ONE other person, and you to make a poster on the 3 branches of government and why they are important. This is due by the end of the week, and I expect you to take some time to work on it outside of class.''
Bonnie whispered to me. ''Don't worry, you can be with Stefan and I'll go be with Caroline.''
I looked back at Stefan and he smiled.
''You won't get class time today, but maybe sometime this week.'' He said. ''If I'm feeling nice.''
The rest of the day went pretty quick and Stefan & I were going to work on our project after school. Which means the make up work is going to have to wait another day.
We arrived at Stefan's house. ''Would you like anything?'' He said.
''Nope, just you.'' I said with a smile.
He smiled back and went to get himself a glass of iced tea before coming over and sitting down next to me.
We already had a poster board. Just the difference between us was that I was a girl and he was a boy. Girls like pink and glitter and organization. Boys just liked getting work done.
I did most of the work on it. Stefan told me what to wrote down and I did and I decorated it the way I wanted. He didn't mind which was nice.
We were finished in a little over an hour and we didn't even need the classtime that Mr. Simon was 'going to give us' but he would probably end up being in a bad mood for the rest of the week and not giving it to us anyways.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Stefan's POV:
''So now that we're done with the poster board, what do you want for your birthday?'' I asked Elena.
''You don't need to get me anything, just be with me on my day and that will be just enough for me.'' She said, as she kissed me.
''I'm getting you something whether you like the idea or not.'' I said.
I brainstormed ideas in my head as we continuted the conversation.
I could get her some type of jewelry, but what?
A ring? No, we aren't getting married.
A bracelet? No, she doesn't seem to wear any of those.
But then I noticed she was wearing a necklace.
Perfect idea.
I thought of getting her a vervain necklace. Vervain is something that vampires cannot have or it will make them really sick and make them turn away and not hurt anything or anyone.
I wasn't giving her that because I was going to hurt her, but if something were to even happen in Mystic Falls with vampires, which has happened before, she would be safe if I wasn't with her.
I already had one too. My mothers.
We talked for a bit more and then Jenna picked her up and she went home for the night.
Once she left, I went upstairs and into my closet, where I kept some things that were left from my parents.
I found the necklace and dusted it off a bit for realizing that it was in perfect condition.
It was for the perfect girl.
