Ethan and I were sat at the kitchen counter. He did the normal swearing and groaning saying; "I won't use this when i'm older whats the fucking point?" Ethan grabbed a handful of chips and shoved them into his mouth. His phone buzzed and he picked it up.
"I've gotta go soon." He said.
I nod packing up everything and putting the bag of chips away. The front door open and in walks my mom and dad.
"Hello Ethan." She smiles.
Ethan says hello back and I introduce him to my dad explaining why I have a boy in the kitchen.
"You staying for dinner?" My mom asks as she packs away food.
"Na he's gotta go soon-"
"I can stay." He says.
I give him a confused look but I shake it off. I lead Ethan up to my room to make more room for my mom to cook dinner.
"Why did you change your mind?" I ask.
Ethan shrugged his shoulders. "Dunno."
"Can we talk about why you were mad during English?"
Ethan sits down, while rolling his eyes. "I said I couldn't study after school because my dad was supposed to come home tonight after being on this business trip. But he called up and said he wasn't coming. You happy?"
"Oh."
"Yeah it doesn't fucking matter, change the subject."
I sat there awkwardly staring at the floor. "Uh, the song you told me to listen to is amazing."
"Yeah it goes with your stupid poems."
I look at the ground and fidget with my fingers.
Ethan sighed and scoffed. "They're not bad okay Seppo?"
I just nod.
"The song was a suicide note." I say.
"No it wasn't. It's just you trying to be poetic and deep."
"It was. I searched it up."
"You really liked it?"
"Yeah I guess."
"Nobody likes my taste in music."
"I do. The song was ama-"
"Yes, amazing, you have said that."
Ethan and I sat in silence waiting for dinner. My mom called saying it was ready. When we go to the table Ethan awkwardly took a seat next to me.
"So, Ethan, how's the tutoring going?"
"It's good. Kendall's a good tutor." He says. And I knew it was a lie. He always tells me that I'm horrible at tutoring.
"Are you sure? Kendall tends to be very bad with explaining." My dad laughs.
I look up at him with a small laugh as we continued to eat.
"You play any sports?" My dad asks Ethan.
"Yeah, I play football, lacrosse and I wrestle."
We sat through dinner with my parents asking Ethan a million questions. Ethan was being really polite which really surprised me. When dinner had finished Ethan helped with packing away the table and doing dishes. I lead him back up to my room and he grabbed his phone texting someone.
"Well Seppo, as much as I love being here with you, I've gotta bounce."
"You did really well tonight."
Ethan laughed sarcastically. "Yeah whatever, see you around."
Ethan left my house and I watch him leave from my window. He got into the car with Grayson and he sped off down the street like usual. I for one, sat in my room staring out the window replaying the song Invisible. And I fell in love with it.
