Omake: Mai's suit
"I've never worn a suit before... is the skirt supposed to be so tight?"
"It's fine. Now that the Tenth generation Vongola is gaining notoriety you, the future wife of a guardian, need to look presentable as well." Bianchi smiled, twirling Mai around to check the measurements and to see if this was the one.
"Then why Haru-chan and Kyoko-chan too...?"
"Kyoko's the sister of the sun guardian and Haru's a part of the team too. You're all in the Vongola whether you know it or not, even little Fuuta is getting a suit."
"Why?"
"It's important for meetings and appearances. Anyway, you don't want Hibari to be left waiting, right?"
"Wh-What!? Since when was this about Kyoya!?"
"Everything's about him when it comes to you."
Mai could hear the chatter outside, everyone was getting their own formal wear. She'd already been dressed up in various dresses by Bianchi, Tsuna was subjected to far too many styles of suits, being the boss was tough, the other boys were all finished though since their sizes weren't difficult to tailor for, while the girls had more curves and growth to worry about.
Haru had finished first then Kyoko, Chrome was with those two trying to find the perfect clothing for herself leaving Mai with Bianchi.
Now, it was her turn to finish.
Bianchi went off to pay so Mai trotted outside to meet the bustling group; Tsuna was trying his hardest not to attract attention but just ended up attracting more. Everyone was just being themselves, Yamamoto joking around with Gokudera with Ryohei in the background screaming about boxing or something.
She was forced to walk home like that, the escort was not helping calm her nerves.
Did Hibari like clothes like suits? He seemed to be more of a traditional kind of person, western never seemed to appeal to him. That was just from watching him, and since he always wears his uniform she could never tell. Although he did wear suits sometimes; he'd only gotten one because Reborn told him to. Since he didn't like wasting things he wore it and surprisingly didn't hate it, plus it worked with his whole disciplinary committee group too. He usually wore a yukata around the house or his usual gakuran school uniform - that or his pajamas. He was an enigma, she came to a conclusion; she knew nothing about his fashion sense.
It was all baseless nonsense she'd guessed up.
During her daydream about Hibari's clothes she'd made it back to his, rather their, house. She was begging to every deity that he wasn't in, instead out on business with Kusakabe or something...
Haha, no way.
He was doing work not just with Kusakabe but with a lot of other people as well. Mai was tiptoeing around the house when she found them all sitting in an empty room, only a table of refreshments and snacks separating them, of which that she didn't make. It was probably Kusakabe again.
Mai did not want to go in there, in fact, wouldn't it have just been better if she went straight back to her room and changed? Or was it really that she wanted Hibari to see her...?
He'd seen her legs before so it wasn't like it was anything extraordinary, or was he secretly into cosplay? Should she wear a nurse uniform next or policewoman? Okay, her mind is going off on a crazy tangent. Mukuro was the one into costumes.
Then Kusakabe just had to walk out while she was brooding. Thank God he shut the door.
"Inoue?" Hopefully they can't hear voices in the hallway; hopefully they were talking loudly and not sat in silence. Hopefully Hibari couldn't hear. "You've bought a suit?" He didn't seem surprised, "It looks nice," He smiled offering her a compliment; Kusakabe, you would compliment her even if she looked like a disgusting ganguro; impossible as she'd probably get killed by Hibari first.
"Thank you. And yes, Reborn-san had everyone who didn't currently own a suit go and buy one." Mai explained, tugging at the bottom of her skirt. She was going to have to experiment with different suits before finding one to suit her and fit comfortably, not that this one was horrible.
"Oh, are you here to see Kyo-san?" Kusakabe, don't open that door. Kusa-Kusakabe... Why would you do that Kusakabe, after all that trust put in you. "Excuse me, Kyo-san, Inoue's here to see you." He called out, interrupting the entire meeting. Hibari told them all to continue whatever they were doing as he walked out to meet Kusakabe in the hall - who had betrayed Mai and walked off by the time Hibari took his place.
One look at Mai and he'd slammed the door shut. He dragged her stupefied self down the hallway and pulled her into his room. "You, why are you wearing that?" Mai couldn't tell if he liked it or not. Did it look that bad on her or did it look good?
"Reborn-san had everyone who didn't own a suit buy one today..." She repeated the same thing she told Kusakabe, albeit more embarrassed this time. "I think it's a little much for me right now... It doesn't suit me does it?" She avoided his eyes like the plague. Mai was aware she was changing little by little, mainly physically, but her mental strength had definitely increased. In middle school she'd never have been able to cope in this position; not that it's really the time to think about that right now.
He didn't think it looked bad, quite the opposite actually; he thought she looked way too inviting right now. She was definitely a problem for his hormones. The simple memory of her TYL self was what he first thought of when seeing her in a suit. Back during the time when they were in Nami-chuu he didn't have the same desires - they weren't as strong - as he did now, therefore after seeing her in a suit again it kinda bubbled up.
She was way too tricky; she had no sense of danger even when he was right here looking like he wanted to devour her. Who knew that a change of clothing could be the trigger? That damned TYL Mai showing up dressed in a suit and then his Mai showing up in one strikingly similar...
"It's fine." He finally answered, a dry tone but an answer nonetheless. "You can ask Kusakabe to get tailored ones if you want to be picky about it." Although his words were blunt and rude Mai could tell he was just trying to be nice. And he was right, there were some parts she wouldn't mind changing. Plus Kusakabe was a jack of all trades, it wouldn't be surprising if he had connections like that.
"Mm, thank you." It was painfully hard to keep his hands by his side.
Mai was small, more like normal sized, so her head fit just under Hibari's chin, a perfect fit actually. So kissing him, not that she did often, was rather difficult especially in specific places and when he was standing up.
But because she was in a good mood, somehow the shopping trip didn't ruin it, she leaned up and pressed a chaste kiss on the bottom of his jaw. It was as good as she, and he, was going to get. Mai quickly trotted out and to the kitchen where Kusakabe was likely making tea and snacks still.
Leaving a flustered and unsatisfied Hibari to deal with his annoying urges alone. Because he knew Mai was nowhere near ready for anything he had in mind.
She'd better be more than thankful...
