Graduation, it wasn't something that people expected Hibari to go through. He was supposed to graduate the year before or something, but because of his love of the school, he didn't. Instead, he just did what he usually did, occasionally studied with Mai and mangled anyone that disturbed the peace.
But when it spread that Hibari was actually graduating to attend high school -outside of Namimori might I add- Everyone was both relieved and shellshocked. The chosen high school's student body were not ready to receive such an unpredictable student.
'Chosen', he just followed Mai along; it was about time to expand his territory anyway. He originally wasn't planning on leaving Nami-middle, but after Kusakabe had told him of all the dangers involved with highschool... Mainly lecherous boys -that would probably be way more mild than Hibari will ever be. So he enrolled.
Because of this, he first had to graduate. It was an annoying process, with exams and tedious amounts of work... He was ready to murder the school board by the end of it all for putting him through all the idiocy.
Then there was the day, it was unfortunate, but it was somewhat required of him to attend the final day.
His morning was perfect, like every morning was; he couldn't be irritated after feeling Mai's soft and slender body in his arms. Not only that, she was sometimes more forward in the mornings, due to weariness and not being completely aware of herself.
Yes, and this morning was especially nice. She'd woken up slightly after he'd moved into a more comforting position, her eyes, half lidded, glanced up at him; although she could probably not see his eyes, his chin and neck were in view. He also didn't know he'd woken her, since he was focused on treasuring the time until she woke up.
That's when he felt her hands on his chest, slowly moving up and finally, her arms ended up wrapped around his neck. This is when he looked down, and saw Mai was fighting sleep and struggling to keep her eyes open.
She leaned up and left a light kiss on his jaw, before retreating back down and using his arm, that was under her neck previously, as a pillow, falling back into her dreams swiftly.
When she woke up again about twenty minutes later, Hibari was still there, awake, and just staring into space, likely thinking about something. Graduation no doubt, his mood will be ruined in seconds.
"Are you okay? You don't have to go." Mai muttered, only saying such a thing because it was Hibari.
Hearing her voice, he looked down to see her peering up at him worriedly.
"Who else will uphold the discipline?" He had a point, there was going to be a lot of rules broken today. Crowding, loud voices, littering, inappropriate attire, smoking, everything under the sun.
"Right..." She tried getting free to go ahead and start making breakfast, until she realised he wasn't letting go or loosening his grip, instead, tightening it. "U-Um... I need to go make breakfast..."
"Wait a second." His deep voice grumbled out, pulling her back against his chest; successfully making her blush, she'd never get used to it. At least in ten years she does, so perhaps not never.
She waited ten minutes before he reluctantly let her go; while she was busy in the kitchen, he went through showering and getting dressed, brushing his teeth, all the usual morning stuff, before trudging down the hallway, following the light scent of food.
Mai had just started moving the fish onto the last plate when he walked in. She placed his dishes down at his side of the table and done the same for her own.
He finished it without complaint, but had to ask, "Why was there a mound of random fruit?"
She was usually more intentive to appearance and actual recipe. It wasn't the first time she'd just chopped up some fruit, but the first time it had been an assorted mess.
"S-Sorry... I haven't been shopping yet, and they were going to go bad soon; I left some aside to make a cake or tart with." He was alright with that answer as he casually chewed on a chunk of apple.
He was more of a meat person, unlike Mai.
They walked to school like normal, taking care of any backstreet delinquents in the wrong place, and were both annoyed and pleased when they arrived. Hibari was the annoyed one, he could hear the excitement from 30 metres away, Mai was pleased, seeing the groups of friends talk animatedly about their schools and all that friendship stuff.
Hibari dropped her hand and went to find a quiet and isolated spot, before he mentally scared everyone here with a massacre.
She was fairly grateful, since she had a few friends she wanted to catch up with; so bidding him farewell, she hurried away to find them.
Mai filed into the gym with her friend, taking a seat near the side, she noticed Hibari was on the balcony above everyone, and away from them. She listened to the principal speak, the school anthem played and results from a poll were lit up on a screen. Since when was there a poll?
She skimmed through until seeing Hibari had won one of the categories, 'Scariest person.' -that wasn't much of a surprise. What was surprising is that people actually had the guts to vote him for anything.
Her eyes then landed on another, and she wanted to disappear, 'Most pitied.'
Why was she pitied!??? Was it really Hibari!!? Who wrote these!? And did the people who voted such want to die!?!
She also won the cutest, but that wasn't very important. She could feel Hibari's mood souring...
But her friend just started casual conversation, "So Mai-chan, where are you planning on going to highschool?"
"An elite school just outside of Namimori, with Kyoya." She answered dryly, sending wary glances up at the second floor.
"Hibari huh? Are you sure? As adorable as it is, don't you think there should be a tiny bit of space between you two?" The brunette girl suggested, probably genuinely concerned about how clingy they were. She was a little different too, instead of screaming and running away in fear after finding out Mai was dating the demon of Namimori; she suddenly found Hibari everything but scary. Since she was usually the one walking in on them kissing, hugging, being overall nice to each other and not in a giant destructive fight like Hibari's image suggests. On purpose, since she was some kind of fangirl when it came to their relationship. She even gave out advice to Mai, here, a perfect example of it, "It's a shame I won't be able to see you guys though..."
"Space? -And Kyoya really hates you, you know?" Mai questioned before deadpanning, remembering holding the boy back from beating the girl up after her friend had purposely barged in on them during a 'heated moment'. It happened a lot, he'd whack her every time he saw her.
"I know..." The girl sighed, "He's really attached to you, like, possessive to the extreme." She explained, Mai mentally agreeing with her. "If you take a break, then you'll maybe get to know each other better, and learn to live without being side by side every waking moment."
"I don't know if he'd like that..." Mai mumbled, thinking she definitely was not going to mention the idea today.
"You can stay with me, or your kouhai friends... Either girl or boy is fine." She carried on, sending out ideas and suggestions quickly.
"I'd rather not attend my kouhai's funeral." Mai stated, making her friend facepalm,
"Right... Hibari."
"I can stay with Haru I suppose... Well, I'll wait a little while before mentioning it." Mai smiled, not planning to ever bring the matter up again.
"'Kay..." The girl drawled before standing up abruptly, catching the attention of everyone in the gym; all was silent until she exclaimed, "HIBARI!!! MAI-CHAN SAID SHE'S BREAKING UP WITH YOU!!!"
Mai gaped at the girl, like, absolutely blown away by the sudden twist of events. There was an uproar, not only in her mind, but the students were having a riot; probably trying to escape and questioning her sanity or something.
"Good luck!~"
Hibari was not happy.
