Mac shook his head. "I can't believe you're doing this." And smiled.
The girl on the other side of the screen, Amanda, laughed. "Oh I can. I've had my fair of Macgyverisms dating you, you know."
"Oh like putting a baseball card in your bicycle spokes to make it sound like a motorcycle?" He smirked knowing he had caught her.
"Shut up. At least I have a bike. You tore yours up to make a wagon."
"A) It's not a wagon. It's a molecular rocket. B) Turn that knob to your left a little more. It's too tight for the pipes." Mac continued on walking her through the ship saving mission. She had been sent at the beginning to teach some students in her profession. She still worked with the Phoenix Foundation, of course, but this was just a small vacation of sorts. A vacation turned nightmare.
"Jack, hand me that." Mac told him as he was trying to build a model to follow. Jack had just gotten off an assignment.
"Sure."
"Now back to that icecream-" Mac was cut off by sirens going off.
"Mac! What's going on?" She yelled loudly, having to be heard over the sirens.
"I-I don't know. Check the valve to your right."
"It's red, Mac! Oh gosh there's water leaking in fast. It's flooding the ship."
Mac cursed loudly at being thrown into this with the person he loved, knowing 31 lives rest in his hands.
"Alright here's what we're going to do."
Moments later they had a sealant goop on the perimeter of the door. A walkie talkie was remodeled into a remote to activate a trigger to set the sealant off. Only one problem.
"Mac, it's not working!" Amanda yelled, trying to press the button.
"Why not?"
"I don't know! The waters getting higher."
"Alright then we'll just rig something else up." He mumbled and looked at his remaining supplies. "But we have nothing left!" He yelled in exasperation.
That was the moment an eerie silence fell over between the two places. "Mac. You haven't used everything." Amanda whispered just loud enough for him to hear her.
"What else?"
"Me."
Macs eyes shot up to the screen in front of him, the rest of the team breathing in slightly. When his eyes locked on hers, he shook his head almost offended that she even offered that.
"No. We won't do that. There's got to be another way. There's ALWAYS another way."
"Not this time, Angus."
Mac started to tear up. "No." He stuttered. "Stop. Stop talking like that. You'll be fine. I'm going to get you out of this."
"Angus Macgyver you have He biggest heart. I love you and don't you dare forget it." She nearly threatened now crying herself.
"You can't do this. You'll die."
"There's only one number that matters anymore. 31. These people have families Mac." She pleaded, the people behind her looking relieved she was the one to die and not themselves.
"You have one too. A big one. And I'm not talking about your blood."
"Mac if you don't tell me what to do, I'll stumble in do it myself and waist it all when I screw up. But hey at least I died trying."
She breathed slowly. "I'm sorry, Mac."
"Light the fuse from the inside. There's a match in your shirt pocket." He said knowingness always made her carry some need be things.
Jack paced slightly, not wanting to face reality. Madi was strong and stood straight with her head held high, but she was still just a person. Riley was crying at the idea of losing her best friend. Bozer looked shocked at the idea this was actually happening to one of their own.
After the door was locked and her fate sealed with it, she turned to the camera as the water rose. "Brr. It's colder than I thought." But she didn't seem real bothered by it. "How long will it take, Mac?"
"2-3 minutes." He grunted out tears pouring down his face.
"You did the right thing. You saved lives."
"No. You saved lives. A lot of them. Not just here but all over the world."
"I couldn't have done it without you. Together till the end, right?" She asked referring to the pact they made when they were only teens.
"Definitely. What's your favorite memory?" He asked trying to keep her body warm by blood flowing.
"Probably the time back in mission city when we burned down old Mcgyffeys place. Spent three night in jail, but probably the best ones of my life."
He laughed and empty chuckle, but still remained a small smile. "I would've thought that you liked the day at Bomb Core when you showed up that newbie."
"Ah. Yes. One of my finer moments." She laughed, but then coughed deeply as the water was now up to her neck.
"Are you in pain?" He asked her softly and grimly.
"No. I'm numb. Really numb."
"Good."
"Mac?" The water was quickly rising faster as it neared the ceiling.
"Yeah, Amanda?"
"I love you." She whispered closing her eyes and letting the freezing water engulf her. Then the camera died.
He collapsed against the table, nearly cracking the glass. He slid to the floor and into a protective position. He sobbed loudly and his face turned red from crying. His team, deciding it best to leave him alone, left wordlessly out the broken glass window.
Mac was never at peace with her death. One day Jack showed up at his place and he noticed Mac just didn't have any fight left in him. He died young wordlessly in the night, no one knowing the cause of the death. But sometimes, in the dead of night, when all is silent, Jack can still hear their bickering play fights and the laughs they will forever share.
