Sebastian
After a long, boring drive, we finally made it to Death Valley. Luna slept the whole way like a baby, and I was so tempted not to wake her, but the view was no sight to miss. The mountains stood tall and beautiful. They were breathtaking.
I rubbed her arm and she opened her eyes. She seemed a little confused, but once she looked out the window and processed where we were, she smiled and sat up excitedly. "We're here!"
"Yes, we are. But we're gonna do some climbing so we should change into some fitting clothes and pack some backpacks," I said.
Luna and I both changed into shorts and tank tops, along with running shoes. We didn't have any hiking boots, so runners could do just fine. I threw in some waters and lunch into a backpack I had in the back of the car.
"You ready?" I asked her. She nodded. "Are you feeling better?"
"I'm feeling better. Let's do this." She did look better. The colour returned to her face and she was vibrant. It made me wonder how someone could be so indestructible.
We started our way up the massive rocks and cliffs, my heart pounding. If we could do this, we could do anything.

"This is crazy," Luna breathed heavily, throwing her backpack off. She stared at the view in front of us. "This is literally insane, Sebastian."
I took a big gulp of water, not even knowing what to say as I shook my head. My limbs were sore and tired but I still felt rejuvenated.
Luna spread out the blanket she brought on the ground and laid down, crossing her ankles and her hands behind her head.
"Come, sit," she patted the space beside her. I walked over and laid down beside Luna.
The sun was slowly going down, and the sunset was painting the sky with crimson colours. It finally cooled down a little, so the heat was a bit more bearable.
I could hear Luna's heavy breaths beside me. She had closed her eyes, her hands resting on her torso. Her shirt had stretched up and I could see part of her bare stomach. I felt a lump form in my throat when I saw huge rashes and bruises covering her stomach, some spots were on her arms. And it again made me think.
Luna is dying. It keeps going over my head that she is slowly deteriorating. She isn't a girl who will live a healthy life up into her eighties. She has a few years. It didn't look like it, but that's what she had. If Luna didn't look sick, you wouldn't even be able to tell. She stays so strong.
I found it hard to shut my mouth, trying not to bring up her bruises. My mouth had so many words and my mind had so many thoughts that I had to get up and start pacing. How could I bring her here? What if something happens? She is off her medication. She isn't being monitored. She just hiked a giant rock. For all we know, she could be on her last thread right now.
She chuckled. "Are you okay?"
I nodded and took a few deep breaths to calm myself down. She was okay. "Yeah, I'm okay. Just thinking."
"Do you want to think down here?" She asked.
Instead of thinking of her sickness, I stared at her eyes. Her gorgeous green eyes. And I followed all her facial features in my mind. She was so beautiful it made my heart skip a beat.
"Yeah." I smiled and laid back down beside her as the sky turned to dark purple and pink hues. The moon was waking up and the stars were starting to come out.
"Sebastian, this has been wonderful," she said.
"This adventure?"
"Yes. It's been the greatest time of my life."
"You know, I can say the same," I said. But, I don't think I could say the same. This adventure wouldn't have been the greatest if Luna wasn't doing it with me.
"It's just crazy how you stole your dad's car and we left the hospital. Now we're laying on a giant rock somewhere in Nevada," she giggled and shook her head in disbelief. I felt Luna's hand as she laced her fingers through mine.
"Yeah. It's crazy. Super duper crazy." I couldn't focus on anything but her lips for some reason. Is this how you should feel? These feelings were so confusing. You want to kiss them constantly, you want to see them smile. You want to hear their laughs and make them feel better. No matter what. It was just so crazy.
"Do you think your parents know you're gone?"
"Oh, no doubt about it. The hospital probably called them the minute they found out I left. But I don't think they care. I think as long as I wasn't at home to be a burden, then it doesn't matter. Plus, your mom promised to tell them that we were okay, just driving for a while and we'd be back," I explained.
"Yeah, I guess," she said.
And it was true. My parents probably didn't care much that I was gone. My dad was probably outraged that I took the car, but other than that, my parents most likely don't care where I am as long as I'm not at home or dead. They just hate dealing with me and all the misfortune and unhappiness that comes from being the parent of someone like me. It's too much hassle to have to sit up with me all night while I ball my eyes out. They just got tired of it.
So did I.
"Should we start heading to the car? It's getting pretty dark," I said.
"We can go in a few minutes. I wanna lay here a bit longer. It's nice."
It was nice. Nothing mattered. No one else mattered. Just me and Luna.
