Sebastian

"It's a good thing you called," he said.

"Am I allowed to come? Please let me, please." I begged the paramedic to allow me to ride in the back of the ambulance with Luna. I don't know what I would do if they didn't.

"Sure. Just be quiet and stay out of the way so we can do our job to ensure the safety of Miss. Matthews," he said.

I nodded and climbed in the back, sitting on a small chair in the corner, my knee bobbing up and down in anticipation. Luna was unconscious on the gurney and it made me feel so much pain, that I couldn't help her or make her feel alright.

They slammed the doors and I just stared at her. I could feel bile rising up my throat.

"Using BVM. The patient isn't breathing." The paramedic kept speaking in medical terms and talking to his speaker on his shoulder, administering tubes and all kinds of other things that I had no idea what the use was.

He held a mask over her mouth and began to pump air in and out, squeezing the bag. I could feel my heart beat slow down and speed up and I felt like maybe I'd pass out.

It all just happened in a matter of seconds. It was so frightening, horrific. Her eyes just rolled to the back of her head, her mouth dropped open, and she fell onto the floor. I called the ambulance as soon as I could, my hands shaking and tears blurring my sight.

The paramedic kept saying things and I looked at Luna's almost lifeless body limp on the gurney when I felt the vehicle come to a stop and she was wheeled out faster than I could even blink.

They rolled her inside and I followed behind until we reached some doors. "Sorry sir, you can't come any further it's family only."

"Her family is all the way back in New York. Please, just let me be with her. She needs someone with her."

"No, I'm sorry you must wait. We will contact the family as soon as possible."

And with that, Luna disappeared behind the doors in which I was not allowed to enter. I jogged to the desk and asked the woman to call Luna's parents.

"Where was she staying before?" The lady asked.

"She used to be in the Bellevue hospital in New York. I'm sure you can get her information just please call her parents."

"I will calm down hun. After we talk some things out would you like to speak with them?" She asked. She was sweet and her calm demeanour made me take a deep breath. "Hey, breathe," she said soothingly, "give me a few minutes. I'll call you over."

I walked over to the waiting area where white chairs lined the walls. I couldn't sit still in the uncomfortable leather chair. My mind was racing. How did it all happen so fast? What ever happened to her? Was this happening over time or did she have some sort of attack?

One minute we were in a hotel goofing around and the next we were in a hospital that was a four-hour flight away from home.

Before I could think any more the woman called me back over.

She handed me the phone and I nodded, putting it up to my ear and walking as far as the cord could reach.

"Hello, Mrs. Matthews?" I said into the phone. I was so terrified about Luna that I wasn't even nervous about talking to her parents for the first time.

"Who is this?" She sounded hysteric. I felt bad for her. If the roles were reversed and I was in New York, I'd be a train wreck.

"This is Sebastian. I've been accompanying Luna on this trip." I would've told her we were in a relationship but that might've made things worse at the moment.

"Well, what happened? She told me when she called us that you would take care of her." She sounded angry.

"And I stayed true to that. The minute it happened the ambulance was called, Mrs. Matthews. I care about Luna's life more than my own, trust me. I had no idea she was going to collapse as she did. She said she felt fine," I said.

"Listen, my husband just got some tickets out to Denver so we will be there probably in about six hours or so," she said.

"They won't let me in to see her. They said family only. Can you tell them to let me see her?"

"You can visit when we get there if she's doing well. We'll see you soon."

"No, no, please. Hello?" She had already hung up.

I gave the phone back. She sounded very angry, but I pushed that away, the thought of Luna's parents blaming me for all of this made me want to rip my hair out.

I was already blaming myself.

If we hadn't even come on this trip Luna might still be in the hospital in New York, fairly healthy, playing monopoly with Micah and me.

Maybe after she gets through this we can.

If she gets through this.

And after that final thought, with no hope left, I started to pray.
