morning song the lumineers
SebastianThe stars were out before Luna and I made our way back down to the ground, but it was nice. The killer heat was gone so it made the trip down much easier. The next destination is unknown, so we just drove until we both got tired enough to sleep.
She was laying on my chest, and I thought she was asleep. Her breaths were deep and her eyes were shut. I pulled hair behind her ear and ran my finger across her cheek. I just couldn't get enough of her.
"Sebastian?" She said. I guess she was not asleep.
"Yeah?"
"What are we?" This threw me off guard. "Like, we kiss and we cuddle, we have obvious feelings for each other. We ran away together. We should define this."
The question hung in the darkness. It rang in my ears as I kept repeating it over and over in my mind. I've never been anything with anyone before. I would like to be something with Luna. I'd like her to be mine. To have the privilege of saying I got her all to myself. But it was Luna's choice, and I would be okay with whatever she wished.
"Whatever you want us to be."
I felt her laugh inaudibly. "It doesn't work that way. We both need to want the same thing."
"I want you to have everything you want in this world, Luna." She sat up.
"So, if I asked you to be the next Bonnie and Clyde, you'd do it?" Her smile was wide.
"Of course I would. You'd make the best partner in crime. I also think getting gunned down by the police is such a romantic way to go."
She belted out a laugh and composed herself, staring at me. "Okay, be serious." Her laugh was adorable and I couldn't stop myself from grinning.
"Luna, I obviously want you to have everything you want. But I mean it too. And I will be whatever you want us to be because either way, I know I'll be happy. If we're just friends I'll be content with that, and if we're more, I will definitely be happy."
"Well." She sat up and crossed her legs. "I don't just want to be friends. I want to be Luna and Sebastian. I want to meet your parents and come over for Thanksgiving dinner and be able to kiss you whenever I want. Only if you want that, too."
My mind was spinning and my heart exploding. Staring at this gorgeous girl sitting in front of me, her soft brown hair falling on her shoulders messily and her green eyes, those damn green eyes. And here she was telling me of all people, she wants to do all that stuff with me.
I reached over and placed my hands gently on her waist and kissed her. She smiled against my lips and her small hands grabbed both sides of my face.
"So, we're gonna be like, boyfriend and girlfriend?" She questioned, pulling away.
"Yeah. That's what we are." I nodded. She giggled and placed another kiss on my lips.
"This feels so surreal. I have a boyfriend. I've never had a boyfriend," she dragged out the word.
"Yeah well, I have a girlfriend," I said, mimicking her. She pushed me playfully.
"Luna?" I asked.
"Hm?" She finally laid down on her stomach and shut her eyes.
"Have you ever had tickles?"
"I hate being tickled. With a passion."
"This kind of tickling is gentle. It'll make you fall asleep. I promise." She looked at me suspiciously.
"I promise it's nice and if I'm lying, I give you full permission to punch me," I said with my hands up.
"Fine. But I'm holding you to that."
I laid down beside her and let my fingertips roam across her back. I tickled, only gingerly, because of course she hates being tickled.
"You're right, these are nice."
Her breaths became deep again, and this time I knew she had fallen asleep, she had a habit of doing that. And even though she was asleep, I did it just a bit longer. I did it because I could. And I could do it whenever I wanted to.
