Sebastian

After Luna and I had a little something to eat, we drove to a paddle boarding shop where we rented (some rather expensive) paddleboards and loaded them into the car.

The price was ridiculous, but it was going to be worth it. After all, making memories isn't free.

"Those things are so heavy I can't even believe it," Luna chimed as we drove to the lake.

I had to load them both and you'd think they would be light. "I know." I chuckled.

When we finally reached the lake, I found a close spot by the water to park The Happy Wagon. The sun was just about to set, so this was going to be perfect.

"Okay, just a heads up, this water is very cold so try not to fall in. I'm not jumping in to save you," I mentioned as I unloaded the boards.

"How gentlemanly of you," she said sarcastically.

We took off our shoes and left them in the car, carrying out our paddle boards. I watched as Luna struggled to even pick her board up, her arms must've been too weak. That, and they weighed as much as a sumo wrestler.

I ran over and helped her, dragging it over to the water. She looked annoyed but didn't say anything. It must feel bad to slowly lose your strength.

"Will you go first?" She asked timidly.

"Sure." I attached the ankle leash to my ankle and looked back at Luna and gave her a reassuring grin.

I was just wearing swimming bottoms and a sweater. She was wearing a black bikini and a wrap to keep her warm. When I saw her I became speechless. Luna is so beautiful in literally every way.

As I thought about how lucky I am, I pushed the paddle board into the water and quickly jumped on and sat on my knees, waiting for Luna.

"The water is calm. Just get on your knees and push yourself off the shore if you want to."

Luna nodded and sat on her board that was floating gently in the water. She was shaky but she sat on it and used her paddle to push herself away from the shore.

"You can paddle like that or stand up when you feel comfortable," I said.

"This is fun already," she smiled, looking at the sky as if it were the most beautiful painting.

I stuck my hand in the water. It was cold, but breathtaking nonetheless.

When we got far enough out on the lake, I stood up. I was shaking like a leaf and leaning back and forth to maintain my balance as I heard Luna laughing. I looked back at her and she was already standing up and paddling towards me.

Always one step ahead of the game, this one.

After paddling for a bit and talking about anything and everything, we stopped and Luna attached her foot leash to my board and came and sat with me on mine.

"It won't sink?" She asked.

"It's almost impossible to sink. Don't worry."

We sat and watched the sun go down as we were carried gently by the water. We both had our feet in and my clothes were wet but I didn't even really care.

"How can the sky just be so gorgeous? It's such a mystery. Just the colours and the vastness and the clouds. The way it feels like home. How it follows you where ever you go. It's marvellous."

I nodded. "You're right. It is a mystery."

Luna rested her head on my shoulder and tangled our fingers together.

"Do you wanna go for a swim?" I asked.

"It's so cold!" She shrieked at the thought.

"Come on. Just get in, lay on your back and I'll hold you up."

"I can't believe how you always talk me into these things." Luna slowly crept into the water, her wrap floating up around her.

"This will slow us down," she said, putting her soaking wet cardigan on the paddle board.

"Okay, now just let yourself float. The water will carry you."

Luna flipped over and laid on her back with her arms stretched out and I put my hands underneath her to rest on her back, twirling her around in the water.

"It's not that cold," she said quietly, smiling at the sky, "not really."

I could see the colours from the sunset dancing in her eyes and how her plump lips upturned into the purest, most innocent smile. Her cocoa brown locks, her soft features, everything about her. Her laugh sounded like the song of a Mockingbird. The way her name dripped like honey off my lips. Everything about her. She got me to fall.

I'm in love with her.

She was just so effortlessly beautiful. So determined to live her life she doesn't care what stands in her way. She had such a beautiful soul. Everything about her was genuine.

"This is so relaxing. I feel like I'm in a dream," she looked at me, "don't pinch me."

"I would never," I laughed.

Luna's brown hair was sprawled across the water beneath her head.

"You are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen."

"I'm sure that's not true," she said back.

"Oh, it is. Believe it."

"Well I guess I have to, don't I Sebastian?" She smiled.
