^SPENCER^

ALTHOUGH IT WAS dark outside, the resort lit up like a firework in the sky. It looked humongous, stretching across further than I could see. It was also very open - the arches along the walls made it so we could see in, and I caught a glimpse of a bright blue pool that resembled a shape of a pear.

I looked at Ruby, the lights reflecting on her face, and she then looked at me too. She threw her arm around my neck, pulling me closer to her, and we walked up the stairs leading to the entrance.

Although I had butterflies in my stomach from the beginning, they intensified once in the lobby. The maroon carpet led us towards the receptionist, a strawberry blonde girl with a tight ponytail and vibrant red lips, who stood up once she noticed us.

"You must be Ruby and Ellis," she said, flashing her flawless set of teeth.

"Yeah, is Spencer around?" Ruby said, taking her arm from around me.

"He's asleep right now, has an early start tomorrow, but he will be available sometime after noon. Until then, enjoy your stay, there are so many activities for you to do here. We have golf, archery, you name it." She let this seep into our minds for a moment. "Let me show you to your room."

We followed her towards an elevator that played classical piano music. As the woman stood in front of us, Ruby and I tried to silently communicate using our eyes. Hers were wide, reading a "wow". I raised my eyebrows momentarily, just as the elevator stopped and the doors opened.

Our room wasn't even a room. It was more like an apartment. It had everything, from a kitchen that was larger than the one we previously had, and in a separate room there was the dining area, in which had dark red painted walls, two bathrooms, a seperate living room, and then two bedrooms.

I stared at the portrait that hung above the  black fireplace. I couldn't exactly make out what it was, as to me it just looked like scribble in black marker, until Ruby pointed out that it was a face. She traced her finger along the lines that made up the eyes, then the nose, and then the lips. Now that I knew what it was, it was all I could see.

This was an exceptional place, unlike anywhere I had ever stayed at before. Not even Gemma's parent's house compared to the luxury that this resort held. It created a feeling of unease, like we really shouldn't be there. It was almost too much for me already, and we hadn't even stayed the night yet.

"Here's a list of all the numbers to call for room service." The receptionist handed Ruby a silver card, the size of her palm.

"Dominatrix?" Ruby read out loud, sounding quite amused.

I couldn't help but wonder if children were allowed here.

"Our customers are mostly made up of men," she smiled, sounding as if she had said that response a thousand times. "Right, so I'll let you two settle in. Spencer booked you in for a spa day tomorrow, first thing when you wake up."

YOU KNOW IN movies, when you see the person laying with a thick green face mask and a slice of cucumber on each eyelid, and their hair is wrapped in a pink towel? That was me, right in this moment.

I lifted a piece of cucumber and took a glance at Ruby, who was laying face down on the bed next to me, getting a massage. Her tattoos were highly opaque as they were covered in oil, and the massage therapist ran her elbow down her spine. It looked painful, but in a good way.

I closed my eyes again and tried to relax, but I couldn't. My mind wouldn't settle. For some reason, I kept thinking about Gia, wondering what she was doing. Where she went.
