Exactly a week after Lauren leaving her wife, Normani and Dinah were surprised to have seen Lauren in the office so early. It was as if nothing had been bothering her, and it was all back-to-work mode for Lauren. She literally had been seated in her executive chair for hours now, still being the same stiff person that she was known for at work. It had been a coping mechanism of hers to shut off and focus on the more important things concerning work, especially when things go wrong between her and Camila.
"Good morning, Lauser!" Dinah said cheerily as she had entered Lauren's office.
To her surprise Lauren had just nodded to acknowledge her presence, not even emitting a sound to say hi or anything.
"Yo Lauser, you mute?" Dinah teased as she walked over to where Lauren sat. The bloodshot eyes were nothing new to them anymore. With how unsteady things are with the couple, they had been used to seeing Lauren that upset. Not seeing that the ring was finally off of Lauren's finger, Dinah was so confused at why Lauren was unresponsive. Pulling out her phone to ask Normani for help, the Polynesian shot a text at the dark skinned girl despite the fact that Normani was just seated a few cubicles away from the two.
DJ: Mani, I need you. Your best friend happens to be mute today.
Normani: Try asking your best friend then.
With the reply Dinah got from Normani, a thought bubble had peered through her mind. If Lauren was not one to talk, she's pretty sure her best friend would have the answers. Realizing that she could possibly not be getting anything from the raven-haired girl, Dinah chose to silently exit the office and drive over to Camila and Lauren's house.
Not bothering to knock and just casually entering the house, Dinah was surprised to be met with Jacob not being his usual giddy self, seated on the ground playing.
"Yo little Lauren, where's your mama?" Dinah teased like she would always have. Normally the little boy would have been running towards her by this time, itching to koala hug her leg as she walked around the house.
"Hi aunt Dinah. Have you seen my mami?" The little boy shyly asked as he was close to tears.
"In the office, bud. Why'd you ask?" Dinah answered, confused at the question.
"Can you call her, aunt Dinah? Please?" Jacob asked as he began to sob.
"Suit yourself bud." She says as she handed over her phone after dialing the raven-haired girl's number. "But where's mama?"
The little boy quickly grabbed the phone waiting for Lauren to answer, and pointed towards the mini office they had at home to answer her question.
"Dinah." The raven-haired girl answered in a tone of seriousness.
"Mami!" The little boy cried out as he had recognized the voice that he had been longing to hear for a week now. It had been a week since Lauren had cut all form of communication with the little boy and her now ex-wife. It was much easier for Lauren to totally abstain from the younger one. With the bond that the two shared, the raven-haired girl found it most difficult to leave him behind.
Hearing Jacob's voice, Lauren was taken aback by the crying that he had heard from the youngster. The love she had for him was something else. And with how things were going for them, she was not sure how much longer she could stay away when he obviously needed his mama. Keeping silent to savor the sound of his precious voice, the little boy began talking as tears had fallen from his face.
"Do you not want me anymore mama? Did you find another playmate that plays better catch than me? I miss you so much... Go home, mama. It's hard to sleep without you." Jacob rambled as he was beginning to have an anxiety attack.
