Mosstail was assigned to Birdpaw as mentor. She was thrilled, but nervous. Every time a new apprentice was assigned to her, she felt the pressure to train them to be the best warriors.

After one moon, Birdpaw claimed she was ready to become a warrior. Foxstar and Mosstail finally agreed to let her have her warrior ceremony. The next day, Leafheart and Goldpaw padded towards high rock. This was so exciting, Birdpaw was going to be a warrior! Birdpaw stood near high rock with Mosstail, eagerly awaiting to become a warrior. Her red pelt glowed in the bright sun that light up the forest. Mosstail's eyes gleamed with pride since Birdpaw had proven herself.

"Birdpaw, I now deem you a warrior!" Foxstar said. "You're warrior name will be Birdfeather!" He continued. Leafheart watched as the new warrior walked in front of the clan. To Leafheart's surprise, instead of looking content, Birdfeather looked unhappy. Mosstail carried the same expression. Leafheart was confused. Why were they so glum? "Birdfeather is there something you would like to say to your fellow warriors?" Foxstar meowed. Birdfeather nodded and spoke. "I am very grateful for you taking me in. Thank you for letting me become a warrior. But, I am troubled by the name you have given me." Wide expressions were shared throughout the clan. No one had ever been unhappy about their name choice. "Featherclaw was the name of my father, he was part of Shadowclan. Like my mother he ran away after becoming a warrior. Featherclaw caused much trouble to rogues and other cats. I do not care to speak about these troubles. But, I do not want to have feather in my name, since this reminds me of how terrible my father was." Birdfeather told. All cats stood in awe. Foxstar finally spoke "What shall your name be then?" Mosstail looked at her former apprentice then suggested "What about Birdwing?" Every one agreed to this name. "Thank you for respecting my story!" Birdwing said.

Later that day, Leafheart thought of the tribe cats. No further information had been revealed about the tribe's troubles. Sun had started to become very tired and slept most of the day. Snow always seemed nervous and spoke very little. Leafheart was eager to find out more about the tribe and her prophecy.
