Chapter 3

Leafheart paced around her den. She was impatient to find out who was going to be deputy. As well as, the mentors for the soon to be apprentices.
Foxstar called the clan to high-rock, it took very little time for everyone to come. Sandkit, Snowkit and Fawnkit stood in the front row, awaiting Foxstar to call on them. Frightkit was curled behind her mother. She was as scared as a piece of prey hiding from a predator.
"We have gathered here to hold an apprentice ceremony. Snowkit, Sandkit, Fawnkit and Frightkit, please come up."
"We're going to be apprentices!" Snowkit yelled excitedly.
They walked in front of ThunderClan their eyes gleaming proudly. The only one not so thrilled was Frightkit, she was shoved in front by her mother, Birchbranch.
"Do you promise to learn and follow the warrior code?" Foxstar asked. He was beaming, he was happy about the growth of the clan.
"Yes!" The kits yelled. Even Frightkit joined in.
"Then I now declare you apprentices!" Foxstar said. He continued. "Frightpaw your mentor will be Birdwing." Frightpaw looked at her new mentor. She was nervous and was turning with butterflies. Her feelings were mixed as she met her energetic mentor. Birdwing was delighted. She was happy to be chosen as a mentor, this, she thought, was a sign of approval from her leader. Approval of her in the clan.
"Fawnpaw, your mentor will be Healfur. Snowpaw, your mentor will be me." Snowpaw gave his sister a little victorious look, Leafheart guessed because his mentor was the leader of the clan. Apparently, he thought he was better then anyone else.
"And finally Sandpaw, your mentor will be......." Foxstar was interrupted by Sandpaw herself. "Can Leafheart be my mentor? Can I be medicine cat apprentice?"
Leafheart was shocked, she couldn't have two apprentices!
"I am sorry but that can't be done, I mean it could but that would be a lot of pressure on Leafheart." Foxstar was surprised. He had never heard of two medicine cat apprentices.
"I could. If she wants to, I don't mind, plus I think Goldpaw could get his naming ceremony since he's proven himself a worthy medicine cat." Leafheart knew Goldpaw was ready, he was ready to have the responsibilities of a medicine cat.
"Plus, it means more medical help!" She continued.
"Very well, then you can move medicine cat apprentice Sandpaw. I will plan for Goldpaw's ceremony soon. " Foxstar sighed, he wanted more warriors to train. Sandpaw ran up to Leafheart and gave her a nudge. "Thank you" she whispered. Goldpaw, utterly stunned that he was going to get his name was thrilled. "I suppose you could help me with the apprentice training. You can pass on your skills to Sandpaw." Leafheart suggested. Goldpaw grinned. He felt so important now. Not that he didn't feel important before, he felt more important now. Leafheart snapped back into listening mode when Foxstar started to speak. "Meekopaw, your new mentor will be Snow."
Meekopaw was thrilled and padded right beside Snow, excited to start training with him.
"As for the new deputy, I have chosen someone special. A special someone who I think will not only make the perfect deputy, but also, a perfect leader. The new deputy is......."
