Chapter 7

A sudden shaking woke Leafheart up from her slumber. She scented the slowly freezing tree branches. Leafbare is coming..... A red figure jumped into her sight.
"Ahh! Who are you? Get out of my den!" Leafheart yelped.
"It's Birdwing! Mouse brain! Come with me!" Birdwing hissed. What does she want? Without waiting for an answer, the beautiful red she-cat tip-toed out of the den. Leafheart slowly got up and yawned. She ran to catch up with Birdwing who was almost out of camp. They walked through the dirt tunnel and continued on into the forest quietly. Once the had reached the clearing, Birdwing stopped. She turned to Leafheart hopefully. She's hiding something... Though, what could a clan deputy hide?
"I-I need to tell you something that I've well, well been hiding for a little while...." Birdwing looked down at her paws and continued. "I have come to realize the the deputy rank is not best suited for me." Leafheart stared at her in awe.
"Why? You are one of the bravest and strongest warrior! You fit the role perfectly!" She said. The shock over-whelmed her.
"For one, I don't deserve more extra lives as a leader, I already have gotten that. And.. And well....." Birdwing gazed passed Leafheart. Her best friend, the only cat that she had really bonded with.
"Birdwing! Tell me! Trust me! I'm your friend, I won't judge you! It doesn't matter!" Leafheart panicked frantically trying to comfort her friend. But, she couldn't avoid the tiny sense of curiosity tingling in the back of her head. What was her secret that she couldn't tell her own friend.
"I know, but, this is something I shouldn't tell you. You'll hate me..." Birdwing's eyes glowed with worry and disappointment. She thought that the wise medicine cat would judge her based on this huge secret that she had been carrying with her for many seasons. Her mother Dustclaw, that wasn't confirmed dead or alive, had taught Birdwing to be strong and to always have faith. Birdwing had very little of this.
"Birdwing! Are you mouse-brained! I will never hate you! You know what, just tell me! Great Starclan you're so dramatic!" Leafheart snapped, now, frustrated with Birdwing's hesitation.
"Alright.... I'll tell you..." Birdwing continued slowly. She now announced her news.
