Chapter 9

Leafheart tossed and turned in her fresh bedding. She could not sleep. When Sun announced that her mate was Pool she also announced the real reason Pool had killed Fly. Sun explained that Fly was her mate, though, Pool loved her. "I was torn so I just chose Fly. Pool was angry, he killed Fly to prove his power. I still wanted Pool as my mate since I didn't know he killed Fly." Sun's words still echoed in Leafheart's head. I must do something! These poor tribe cats need help! Pool is not the right healer for the tribe.

It was dawn, Leafheart quickly ran to Foxstar's den. Healfur was the only cat there. "Where is Foxstar?" Leafheart asked "He must have left for dawn patrol." Healfur said tiredly. Great! Now I have to wait to tell him my plan! While she waited Leafheart was reviewing medicine cat skills with Goldpaw. "This is Poppyseeds, they help to calm cats down and helps them rest. That's catmint it cures greencough." Goldpaw recited. Leafheart nodded proudly. Goldpaw was the perfect medicine cat. They would travel to the moon pool tonight, this would be Goldpaw's first time.
Foxstar finally came back, but before Leafheart could speak to him he helped for help "Leafheart! It's Badgekit! He followed us out of camp, a fox attacked him!" Badgekit was motionless. "No! My kit!" His mother Birchbranch meowed. "I don't know if he'll make it through the night." Leafheart said honestly. She was very disappointed since ThunderClan needed apprentices.

Leafheart was correct. Badgekit died during the night. His parents Birchbranch and Redberry were heart broken. The clan held a vigil for him. Although, Leafheart's mind was else where. She was determined to carry on with her plan.

She found Foxstar in his den. She started to speak. "I can't help it anymore! I must help the tribe." She continued "We can send some clan cats to go fight Pool. " Foxstar's eyes were filled it's grief. "Yes, it is time, I will call for a clan meeting." Foxstar said.

At the meeting there was a lot of controversy. "Why should we help them?" Pounceclaw hissed. "It's Starclan's prophecy" said Healfur. "I do not care to argue with Starclan, I want Mosstail, Redpelt, Birdwing and Snow to go solve this problem." Foxstar stated. "What about Leafheart? She probably know the most about the prophecy!" Birchbranch yelled out. Leafheart blushed, though she did want to go. "She is medicine cat no one can replace her." Foxstar said. "If you wish for me to go, Goldpaw is perfectly capable to take over medicine cat duties." Leafheart suggested. Goldpaw looked nervous as this was said. "Very well, you can go Leafheart." Foxstar said. "Wait! Why isn't Sun going?" Redberry questioned. "She is expecting kit and it is probably best Pool doesn't see her." Foxstar retorted. "Meeting dismissed, the cats who are traveling will leave at dawn tomorrow. " he said.

Goldpaw padded alongside Leafheart. They were headed to the moon pool. Once they arrived, Greenpelt, Fairtail and FeatherCloud settled beside them. So did, Treepaw, Rosepaw and Ticklepaw. "Starclan, this is a new medicine cat apprentice. Please accept him." Leafheart said. "Now rest Goldpaw." Once he had, Leafheart lied down to sleep as well.

In her dream she dreamt of Mistface. Mistface had said Starclan accepted all cats that had been chosen to go on the journey. Goldpaw had dreamed too. They returned to ThunderClan camp. Leafheart settled in her den, she couldn't wait to go on the journey to find the tribe and defeat Pool.
