"Ok I can't take this anymore!" Ty exclaims, jumping out his bed and turning on the light. Sevyn squints through the sudden bright light at her brother as he glares at her. "I can not keep be woken up out of my sleep at all times of the night and early morning Sevyn."
"I'm sorry, I'll come in more quietly then." She says dropping her pillow and blanket on the floor.
"No, I don't want you in here at all. I want to be able to talk in my sleep and fart in my sleep without worrying that you might toss me out the window because of it." He tells her, his voice getting louder and louder.
The door opens and Malcolm walks in. "Stop yelling at her, jeez. She can't help it."
"Then let her sleep in your room every night." Ty argues.
Malcolm shrugs his shoulders, "I don't mind." He says. Sevyn picks up her pillow and blanket and is about to follow Malcolm out when Ty stops them.
"Sevyn you're too old to be scared from nightmares. If they're that bad then you need to talk to mom, maybe she can get you some sleeping pills or something." He says.
Sevyn crosses her arms. "No, if you don't want me in here that's fine. I'll just sleep in Malcolm's room."
"Not saying that I don't enjoy my privacy or anything like that, but maybe you should talk to mom about your nightmares Sev. She knows more than we do, maybe she can stop the nightmares."
Sevyn is about to protest when Ty speaks again. "Either you tell her or I do."
Knowing he's not giving up the fight, Sevyn gives in. "Fine, I'll tell her after breakfast." She hates to admit it but her brothers are right. If there's anyone that can help her stop these nightmares it's her mom. Plus, she misses sleeping in her own bed.
That morning after breakfast, while her brothers are still getting ready for school, Sevyn goes to her mothers room. She's standing in the mirror, using a lint roller on her black pants. "What's up babygirl?" She asks glancing at her through the mirror.
"I have a problem mommy," Sevyn says, sitting down on her mothers bed and picking at a stray thread on the blankets. "For the past few days I've been having nightmares. Like really vivid ones that make me cry in my sleep."
"It's probably what you eat before bed." Her mother responds but Sevyn shakes her head.
"I thought that too but it's not. They're so bad that I've been sleeping in Ty and Malcolm's rooms." She admits.
"What are your nightmares about?"
Sevyn hesitates. How can she explain such a skin crawling awkward dream like the ones she's been having. "A lot of things. The divorce, Jackson....Keenan."
Her mother whirls around to face her. "Keenan? What exactly happens in these dreams?"
Again Sevyn hesitates and looks away from her mothers eyes. "Him touching me...hitting me and screaming at me. Sometimes he...rapes me." She says staring at the wall. "Sometimes dad is there and-" she takes a deep breath. "You guys are usually yelling or fighting each other. It may not sound bad but the way it happens in my dreams makes me wake up sweating."
Her mother sits down next to her on the bed. "How long has this been going on now?"
"About two weeks."
"Why didnt you tell me earlier Sevyn? These dreams aren't normal and they shouldn't be happening for so long."
She shrugs, "I thought they would eventually stop but they just keep getting worse."
Her mom is silent for a few minutes thinking this over. "I think we should call your doctor about this. See what she has to say about the nightmares. Ok?"
