Corey can hear Sevyn's sobbing all the way down the hall as he walks from the elevator to the room Malcolm is placed in. When he gets closer, he sees Sevyn standing outside the room crying while Jackson tries to console her. He walks towards them with a heavy heart, he got the text from Ty that Malcolm was in a car accident when he was flirting with one of Aubrey's cousins back at the baby shower. He excused his self and hurried to his car to rush over here.
He approaches them and glances at the door that's closed. "How's he doing?"
Jackson looks up at him, "He's been slipping in and out of sleep. It's just the medicine they have him on, other than that he's ok."
"No he's not!" Sevyn pushes Jackson off her. "He has stiches in his leg from that big ass cut, his face is black and blue and he's too doped up on medicine to even speak a full sentence. He is not ok." Her voice shakes as she talks and Jackson tries to comfort her again.
Corey rubs the back of his neck and wonders how this happened. Malcolm is the most responsible person and driver he knows. That boy drives with an iron grip on the steering wheel, the music low, back completely straight and his eyes peeled. The odds of him getting into accident seemed slim to none.
"Can we get something to drink?" Sevyn wipes her face with her shirt.
"There's a vending machine down the hall." Corey comments, "You can take her down there."
"Alright," Jackson puts an arm around Sevyn and leads her down the hallway. They turn the corner and just as Corey is about to go inside the room, the door opens and Ty steps out. His face is red and he looks like he's ready to punch someone in the face. Without saying a word, Ty walks down the hall to a secluded area with a round table full of magazines and some chairs. He takes a seat by the big window and Corey sits across from him. "How you holding up?"
"That's a trick question. I'm not holding up at all." Ty replies, with his hands grasp together. Corey waits for him to talking, knowing he'll open up when he's ready.
Ty's brown eyes flicker up at Corey, they're filled with pure pain. "It's my fault that Malcolm is in the hospitial." Corey's scrunches his up eyebrows confused. Ty licks his lips, "I told Malcolm to head to my dads house on his own and that I was going to stop at Talia's house before I came. He said he didnt want to go by his self cuz it might be awkward but I told him to stop being a punk and just go. He hates being a punk so he stormed out and left. He was probably driving angry and reckless because of me."
"That's not your fault Ty. Just cuz someone calls you---"
"I should have been with him!" Ty yells. "I'm never there for my brother or my sister. When Sevyn got lured into that closet by Keenan I wasn't paying attention to her. I should have been watching her and because of that, she got sexually abused and scarred forever!" His voice cracks but he continues. "I was supposed to leave with Malcolm, we were supposed to go together but I let him leave alone. I should be in the hospital bed instead of letting him suffer in pain because of me." Guilt washes over his whole face as he breaths deeply. "I'm the oldest, even if it is by ten minutes. I'm supposed to watch over them and I don't. This is all my fault." Ty croaks out.
"No one could have predicted or prevented this Ty. Stop blaming yourself for this cuz its gonna eat away at you until you go crazy." Corey tells him. "And what do you mean you're not a good brother? You protect Sevyn with your life, you're her security guard, her watch dog, her body guard, her own secret service. You mean the world to that girl and she looks up to you and depends on you to have her back, which you do. But you can't be blaming yourself for that one slip up." He nudges Ty's arm so they lock eyes. "And you've had Malcolm's back since yall came out the womb. Yall have fought for each other since yall learned what it meant to throw hands. No one has ever come between yall cuz yall got the strongest bond I've ever seen in my life. You don't let no one step up to Malcolm and vice versa, yall ride for eachother, all three of yall do."
