"Whoa, whats going on?" Ty asks as he and the boys walk into the gym. Various people from their grade are sitting on the gym floors surrounded by markers, colored pencils, paint and paper.
"We're making Corey get well soon cards. The school counselor suggested it for the grade." Nina Baker says walking over to them and handing out paper.
"Hmmph, no one made me get well soon cards when i was in the hospital for my leg." Malcolm pouts.
"Coreys in a coma though, thats scarier than fracturing your leg." Shaun tells him.
"So? It was still painful as hell." Malcolm replies, "Yall never really loved me." He hangs his head sadly.
Nina giggles, "I'll make you a card Malcolm, will that make you feel better?"
He lift his head with a slight pout, "A little bit."
"Ok," She flashes a smile and walks away to get started.
Ty chuckles, "Aw shit, Malcolm pulling all the girls lately. I think it's the crutches man, first Miranda now Nina."
Shaun looks at Malcolm as he smiles shyly. "What's going on with you and Barcelona?" He asks, referring to Miranda.
"Nothing," Malcolm grins.
Ty sucks his teeth and nudges his arm, almost making him lose his balance on his crutches. "Man they exchanged numbers and I swear they be talking all night. I walk in his room and this nigga smiling like no tomorrow, laid up in his bed like a pimp."
Shaun and Ty burst out laughing as Malcolm smiles and looks at the ground. "She holds good conversations." he says modestly.
"I bet she do," Shaun laughs. Malcolm shakes his head and hops away from his brother and Shaun to go sit in the bleachers. It's true, ever since that day at the trampoline park he's been talking to Miranda like crazy. There's just something about her that attracts him. She's funny, smart, honest and outgoing, nothing like the girls at his school. Plus her accent makes everything she says sounds pretty and foreign. Malcolm smiles a little, looking down at the ground. He knows she's at school but he wonders if she's thinking about him right now too.
The only problem is that she has a boyfriend, Sevyn told him that she met Jose at her party a month ago. Still, he can't help enjoying their conversations and learning all about her life back in Spain. They send eachother snapchats and he finds everything about her beautiful, even when she makes the ugliest faces imaginable. He's never been the type to be drawn to another guys girls, but he'd snatch up Miranda in a heartbeat.
"Malcolm think fast!" His head jerks up just in time for a black marker to whip him across the face. He rubs his cheek and looks at Shaun and Nina who are laying on the floor laughing. "You looked kinda dazed over there." Shaun laughs then ducks as Malcolm chucks the marker back at his head.
After school, the basketball team along with some teachers and students help transport all the cards, balloons, flowers and stuffed animals for Corey to the hospital. Sevyn smiles proudly, watching people from school come together to support their fellow classmate. The one who's loved by many and so easy to get along with. The hospital staff is amazed by the amount of people coming out to support Corey and brighten up his hospital room, even if he isn't alert to appreciate it. The soccer team made him a big poster with a soccer ball painted in the middle of it and his jersey attached to it. Sevyn takes a picture of Corey surrounded by all the novelties and posts it on instagram with the caption: Thanks to everyone from MPH who's by Corey's side through this long journey, he's gonna be thrilled when he wakes up!
When Keenan goes over to Aubrey's house after dropping off his balloon and card to Corey's room, he walks in and finds the house quiet. Her aunts car isnt in the drive way but he knows Aubrey's home since he just texted her an hour ago. He got in by using the spare key left under the mat for him in case something happens to Aubrey while her Aunt is out. He came to check up on Aubrey and bring her the homework she's missed this week, but something about the atmosphere is off. The living room is deserted and so is the kitchen. Thinking she might be sleeping, Keenan climbs the stairs to her bedroom.
