"How in the world do you build this stupid molecule?" Jackson grumbles, picking up the colorful plstic parts that their teacher laid out in front of them. Their assignments is to make different molecules like water, copper and gases but all these little balls and weird stick like things only confuse him, and his partner Cameron isn't any help either because he's just as confused.
"Chemistry isn't my strong point." Cameron tells him as he examines one of the yellow ball like parts.
"Yeah I've noticed." Jackson huffs out. He sits on his stool with his chin in his hand and looks around the class room. Sevyn and her lab partner have at least seven of the fourteen molecules already done and are working on the eigth. He wishes he could go over and ask for help, but after what happened on sunday she might just stab him with one of the plastic sticks.
The classroom phone near the door rings and their teacher walks over to answer it. After a small conversation she takes the phone from her ear and covers the mouth piece. "Jackson, you have a phone call." She says.
Thinking it's his dad or something, Jackson walks over to the phone and takes it from his teacher's grip. He brings it to his ear and speaks into it. "Hello?"
To his surpise a womans voice comes through the phone. 'Hello is this Jackson Daniels?" He tells her yes and she continues. "Hello Jackson, I'm Doctor Mahumi I work at Saint Jorge's hospital."
"Ok..." He says, his voice sounding confused.
"Yes, I called to alert you that your sister was brought in about an hour ago. She's suffering from a very high fever along with vomiting." Doctor Mahumi explains.
Jackson's eyebrows shoot upwards, "What!? Why am I just now being called?" He exclaims. A few of his classmates look over at him curiously. Sevyn lifts her head too to look at him, hearing the angry edge in his voice. A little part of her is concerned at his tone of voice and the tight grip he has on the phone.
"Well we've been trying to call her parents for over an hour now but no one has been picking up. We tried her grandmother too but her number has been disconnnected."
"Our grandmother is dead." Jackson growls into the phone. He doesn't mean to sound so rude but he's pissed off that his little sister is sitting up in the hospital by herself while her mother and father are no where to be found.
"I'm sorry." The doctor says sympathetically. "Your name was last on the emergecny contact list. Is there any way you can make it down here?"
Jackson looks at the time on the phone, it's 11:30 in the morning, lunch time hasn't even rolled around yet. But his little sister is more important so missing a half day of school is worth it. "Yes, I'll leave now."
"Alright, thank you."
"Thanks for calling. Bye," He hangs up the phone forecfully and lets out a heavy sigh. He walks over to his teacher to explains to her why he has to leave. After explaining the situation, he waits as she writes him a pass and assigns tonights homework. As he stands at her desk, he happens to glance over in Sevyn' direction. She quickly looks away from him and continues work on her lab assignment.
"I hope everything goes ok." His teacher tells him, handing him the pass and tonights homework.
"Thanks, me too." Jackson responds before walking back to his table. He begins packing up his notebook into his bag and Cameron looks at him with frantic eyes.
"Are you leaving man? How am i supposed to get this lab done?" He asks.
"Sorry, I have an emergency. Good luck though," Jackson pats his back then rushes out of the classroom. He sprints down the hall, not caring if the principal catches him. He has a good enough reason to be speeding down the halls right now and he dares anyone to try and stop him.
