"You ready to present?" Monica asks putting on her nurses mask and gloves. They're in English class preparing to present their scene from the book Macbeth. They chose to do the doctor scene where Lady Macbeth really shows how much she's lost her mind since there's only two of them in the group.
"No," Sevyn says adjusting her long blue night gown that she borrowed from her mom. She's still wearing her jeans underneath it, too lazy to fully change. She places the white eye mask on her forehead and picks up the unlit candle that she borrowed from her mom's room. "I hate presenting,"
"Just pretend you're talking to me." Monica suggest.
Sevyn looks around at her classmates. "With eighteen other pairs of eyes burning holes through me, I think that'll be kinda hard." She frowns. Monica shrugs, unable to think of anything else that could help.
"Sevyn, Monica, you're up." Their teacher says. Monica gives Sevyn a brief smile before they stand up and walk to the front of the class. Butterflies swarm in her stomach as Sevyn takes her time reaching her spot. She'll read out loud during class and play volleyball in a crowded gym, but when it comes to acting in front of her class mates her stomach turns to jelly and her hands shake.
They reach the front of the classroom and Sevyn takes a deep breath before pacing back and forth across the floor like she's supposed to as Monica reads her lines. In this scene, Monica is playing the doctor who observes Sevyn as Lady Macbeth while she's sleep walking because guilt is eating away at her. Her mind is playing tricks on her, making her believe that her hands are dirty with the blood of the people her husband killed.
Sevyn's voice shakes a little as she says her lines which matches perfectly with the nervous mindset of the person she's playing. When she's done she lays down on the floor and closes her eyes as Monica pretends to walk away. The class starts clapping and Monica and Sevyn stand up and bow in thanks.
"Very good you two," Their teacher says then looks at the class. "Any questions?"
No hands go up and Sevyn breaths a sigh of relief before heading to her seat. Suddenly a hand shoots up in the air and Sevyn groans before stopping in her tracks and glaring at Carson who's smiling evilly at her. "What?" Sevyn snaps.
Carson lowers her arm, "I was just wondering, what made you pick this scene?"
Sevyn sighs, "We picked it because it's when the audience finally sees how Lady Macbeth is starting to regret ever forcing her husband to kill people. It's interesting how the guilt eats away at her until she looses her mind."
"Can you relate to the scene?" Carson asks, tilting her head to the side a little.
"Huh?" Monica asks.
Carson looks at her now, "Has anything ever eaten away at you until you lost your mind?"
"That's none of your business," Monica says matter of factly, putting a hand on her hip and eyeing Carson.
"No need to get rude Monica." Their teacher says causing her to rolls her eyes.
Carson's blue eyes slide back to Sevyn. "What about you Sevyn? Ever had anything eat away at you until you completely just broke down and lost your mind?" She asks, a small smirk tugging on her lips. "Anything that could have made you so depressed you just...lost it?"
Sevyn doesn't respond to her, knowing she's just trying to get under her skin about the whole Keenan incident. The whole class is staring at her expectantly and she feels like a bug under a microscope. "I'm done answering questions." She says before storming back to her seat and plopping down in it. She was having a good morning until Carson tried to start with her. Truth is she moved passed the Keenan situation and is trying to focus on better things but if people like Carson keep bringing it up its going to have an effect on her.
