"Woooo go Bulldogs!" Talia yells at the top of her lungs. Sevyn looks around at the screaming fans on both sides of the gym, cheering their teams on. It's the Bulldogs vs. the Panthers and everyone is just as hyped as they were for the last game. Her mom conviced her to take a break from the hospital and hang out with her friends at the basketball game. Truthfully she'd rather be laying in her bed scrolling through Twitter right now instead of stuck in a funky gym with too loud fans and overzealous cheerleaders mugging them from the other side of the gym.
"If homegirl looks over here one more time I'm walk across the floor and snatch her by her ponytail." Monica says giving one of the cheerleaders from the Panther's teams a dirty look. She's been eyeing Monica from the moment they walked in, giving her the stank face while whipping around her fake blonde hair.
"Do you know her?" Talia asks.
Monica looks the girl up and down but knows she has never see in her before. "Nope.
The bleachers erupt with fans stomping and cheer as Shaun goes in for a layup. "If they win this game tonight, they make it the championship." Sevyn tells them.
"I know, you can almost smell the anticipation." Monica scrunches up her face at the permanent smell of sweat in the gym. Sevyn watches the players run back and forth, the look of determination on the their faces is clear as sweat pours down their backs and glistens on their foreheads. Their eyes are observant and occasionally glancing at the clock. Sevyn knows that if Malcolm was on the court he'd be giving his team pep talks to keep their spirits up and help them play to their best ability. He didn't want to come to the game though, he chose to stay home with their mom. He tried to be a good sport and support his brother by wishing him good luck on his way out, but everyone could tell he was disappointed that he wouldn't be playing tonight.
Sevyn, Talia and Monica spend the rest of the game talking about anything that comes to mind while keeping an eye on the game. When it comes down to the final minutes, it's clear that the Bulldogs are ending with a win, so the girl head to the lobby to get some fresh air.
"You guys up to going somewhere with me tomorrow?" Sevyn asks, taking a seat on the lobby stairs.
"Where?" Talia asks, sitting beside her as Monica remains standing.
"Trampoline Park, my mom says I should take a break from breathing in all those hospital fumes and relax. It's too cold to do anything else other than go to the mall and I don't feel like shopping. Plus Manny wants to meet the crew." Sevyn tells them.
Talia scrunches her eyebrows, "Who's Manny?"
"A friend I met a while ago. He works at the trampoline park." Sevyn tells them, "His uncle owns the place so he can basically use it when he wants. He said we can come tomorrow if we want."
"Sounds good to me." Talia rests her elbows on the steps and checks her phone. There are a few people milling around the lobby just talking and hanging out until the game ends. Someone usually throws a party after the game and both team's supporters are there, regardless of who wins and loses. When there's a party mentioned rivals become best friends. With Malcolm at home with a bum leg, Sevyn doubts her friends will be partying tonight which is just fine with her.
The buzzer in the gym sounds and they can hear the fans cheering, Sevyn assumes its the Bulldogs because when they left the gym their team was up by four points. Moments later, people start flooding into the hallway buzzing about the game and the after party. The Panther's fans aren't as enthusiastic as everyone else which confirms that they lost. As people start heading outside, the cheerleader that kept staring at Monica walks out the gym with her team. Her cold gaze locks on Monica and she looks her up and down. Monica doesn't say anything before stomping over to the girl with her hand on her hips. "Can I help you?"
