Night Go Slow- Catie Shaw

"How're you feeling, Cass?" It had been about an hour since our conversation and he had barely moved from his place in his bed.

"Okay. Just tired," he smiled up at me lazily. "Come 'ere." He sat up and pulled me down into his lap. "What about you? I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make today about me."

"It's okay. This is about both of us. I understand."

He kissed me. "Have your parents tried to make contact?"

I checked my phone, pretending like I didn't already know the answer. "No. I don't expect they will. They seemed pretty adamant on never seeing me again."

"They'll come around."

"You obviously don't know my parents."

He hugged me against his chest, jumping when the door burst open.

"Geez, have you two just been lying around sucking face all day? We had school."

Cass sighed. "It's been a long day, Ari. Good to see you all chipper as usual."

"Your dad told me to come by if I wanted answers. Which I do. So spill."

"It happened, Ari." I sighed. "We told my parents."

She pulled me out of my boyfriend's lap and into her arms. "Why'd you do that?"

"They had planned my entire life out. I couldn't let them do it anymore."

She kissed the top of my head as April came into the room.

"I heard someone come in," she froze when she saw Ari. "Hi."

"Long time," Ari smirked a bit. "Sorry about your face."

"I deserved it. You want any food?"

"Oh, hell yes. I'm starving."

They disappeared downstairs and I asked Caspar why Ari just apologized to April for 'her face'.

"She punched her last time they were together. Broke her nose."

"Why?"

"April was a jerk. She followed perfectly in her parents' footsteps. I don't know what changed her mind."

"Come on, you two," Ari's voice carried up the staircase. "You should eat something."

"Are you hungry?" I asked Caspar. He shook his head, laying down. I kissed his forehead before going to join April and Ari, hoping that nothing would happen while I was gone.
