First Time He Kissed a Boy- Katie Elder
The rest of the day was slow and agonizing, and even in Chemistry I was wishing the day would end. Sure, I was with Caspar and Ari, but I could be with them at home without everyone else around to keep a barrier between Cass and I. It wasn't fair that all these couples could be as open and...intimate in school, but I couldn't even put a hand on Caspar's shoulder without being called a fag. Of course, there were exceptions. Any time Cass came into his dad's class during my class period (which he claimed was entirely coincidental), we could do whatever we wanted, because his dad immediately told off anyone who disagreed. I mean, we couldn't do whatever we wanted, but he'd always kiss me before he went back to class. Even still, we could do whatever we wanted when we were in the safety of our room, away from the stereotypical judgmental dicks we go to school with. At home, I could be with the four people who cared about me and loved me unconditionally. My family. My real family.
"Babe?" My head cleared at his voice. "The bell rang a few minutes ago. Everyone left. We can go home. Ari's waiting in the car."
"Oh," I chucked in embarrassment. "Sorry."
"Come on," he took my hand, and I looked at him incredulously when he didn't let go of my hand in the hall. "What?"
"You're holding my hand."
"Yeah? You're my boyfriend."
"What're you trying to do, Donovan?" I smirked.
"I just figured that since your parents no longer have control over you...."
"I'm free." He laughed at the wonder in my voice, leading me out of the school. I felt severely comforted by his hand in mine, especially in the face of the judgmental looks we were getting by simply walking down the street. Ari had the car ready to go and we hopped in the back. It would be a few hours before Chris got home, but April should already be there. She still went to a private school, and they let out half an hour before we did. She was laying on the couch, talking to someone on the phone. She silently greeted us as we went upstairs, indicative that she'd join us as soon as she was done. Ari and Cass immediately took to playing some violent video game while I attempted to get some homework finished. I was somewhat successful until Cass leaned back against me and kissed the nape of my neck while his head rested on my shoulder. He then jumped up and cursed when Ari killed him, moving back to his spot beside her. April came up and sat beside me, resting against me and nearly falling asleep when Caspar threw a balled-up sock at her.
"Hands off my boy, Harrison."
"Hey, you can share. I just want his warmth. It's cold."
"Fine."
Once Chris came home, we ordered a pizza and settled down to watch some plot-lacking film on tv. Chris was in the recliner, April and Ari were spread out on the couch, and Caspar and I were cuddled together on the loveseat.
"We should get a dog." Caspar blurted as I sat on his lap.
"Cass.... No...." Chris shook his head, laughing. "You can barely take care of yourself."
"Teddy can take care of me and I'll take care of the dog. Come on, it's so lonely just having the...five of us...here."
"Only three of you actually live here." Ari chimed in.
"Exactly! Please." It was so cute watching him pout like that.
"I'm a teacher, son, it's not like I make much."
"Oh, don't act like you're not loaded," April rolled her eyes. Cass hit her and she seemed to realize that she did something wrong.
"Loaded?" I asked.
"We're not loaded. We're just...well-to-do. It's my grandparents, not us." Caspar explained. "They just give us a lot."
"You're just the whole package, aren't you, Donovan?" I kissed his cheek. "Cute, smart, funny, rich...soon to have a dog...."
I looked hopefully at Chris. He shook his head in defeat. "Fine."
Caspar hugged me into him and cheered. "I'm gonna go plan!"
He started to get up but I stopped him. "Babe. Chill. Movie."
"Right. Sorry," he smiled sheepishly.
