Love Like You- Rebecca Sugar

Cass POV

It was 11:45 when we got home. We put the girls to bed, in separate rooms, before moving to the couch. Echo jumped up in my lap as soon as we sat down and turned the TV on to the countdown. Teddy grinned.

11:50

"What're you smiling at?" I laughed.

"Just...you." He kissed my cheek. "I love you."

"Love you too." I winced at the strain in my voice. He frowned.

"You don't have to say it."

Why was it so hard for me to say it? I love you. I love you. I love.... "I want to. It'll get better."

"It doesn't need to. It's okay."

"No it's not."

"Cass...."

"You're my boyfriend. And I love you. And if I had my way, I would tell the world about it every second of every day. And I want my way. I will get my way."

"Well, you are very stubborn."

I laughed. I love you. I love you. I love....

11:55

Teddy curled into me, his small frame easily forming into my side. I kissed the top of his head. He was so small. So cute. Mine. We shouldn't've gone to that party. God, I got so jealous when that guy even looked at him. I needed to calm down about that. People were always going to look at him. I understood. He was freaking adorable. I got so protective so easily. I think it scared him. I have to not let myself become Grey. I remember one time we were at a party, both drunk to the point of no return, and he had his arms constricting around my waist.

"You're hurting me," my voice was quiet.

"And I'm going to be until that guy stops looking at you," he growled, attaching his lips to my neck territorially.

"Grey, please."

He released me, but only to march over and punch that guy in the face. I tried to leave, then, while he wasn't paying attention, but sighed in defeat when a hand gripped my throat.

"How far from me do you think you'll get?" He grinned, his eyes dark. "Come on. There's a bedroom upstairs."

"Grey, I don't-."

"Now."

11:59

"You okay, Cass? Your arm's kinda tight." My boyfriend's voice broke through the memory.

"Oh, sorry," I loosened my grip on him.

He kissed my cheek. "New Year. Any resolutions?" He smirked, knowing full well that I hated resolutions.

So, he was a little shocked by my response of: "A few."

10...

He sat up a bit, bringing his face level with mine.

9...

He smiled at me, oblivious to the fact that my heartbeat was now louder than the cheering of the people in Times Square on the television.

8...

My hand rested on his waist.

7...

He placed a light kiss on the corner of my mouth.

6...

My hand slipped under his shirt.

5...

He kissed my cheek.

4...

A door upstairs opened and shut.

3...

I ignored it.

2...

So did he.

1...

His breaths grew faster, his face now millimeters from mine.

The digital crowd cheered.

We kissed. I love you. I love you. I love....
