Mind Over Matter- Young the Giant
"Are you sure about this?" Jack asked as we stood outside our parents' hospital room.
"I promised Cass. I don't really have a choice. I made a mistake and this is my punishment."
"What if something goes wrong?"
"I have him on speed dial to come pick me up. I'll be okay."
My brother hugged me before leaving me to go into the room. They both looked utterly confused when I walked in. My father glared. "What are you doing here?"
"It wasn't my choice. Apparently my boyfriend cares a lot more about your well-being than I do."
"Your boyfriend? I hate to break it to you, but I saw him go off with Grey after services that day."
"You knew, didn't you?"
"Knew what?" Mother asked.
"You knew that Grey had been abusing him for years. And you never said anything. You just sent Grey to Fletcher. And that only made it worse."
"What Grey does with his time is none of your concern," Father snapped.
"It's damn well my concern when he's abusing my boyfriend!"
"Language!" Mother scolded.
"Caspar spent the past two years in an abusive, non-consensual relationship with Grey. He was 14. And you didn't help him. I thought you people were supposed to be helpful and loving?"
"Forget it, Theodore. It's in the past."
"It's Teddy."
"What?"
"My name. It's Teddy. Listen, I'm just here to make sure you're not dying or anything."
"Like you'd care if we were," Father muttered.
"Fine. I tried. I'm out," I took my phone from my pocket and called my boyfriend. "I can't do this anymore. Come get me. I'll meet you outside." I ended the call, turning back to my parents. "I really do hope you're okay."
I walked out of the room, heart stopping when I heard it. It was quiet. Weak. Reluctant. But it was there.
"Thank you, Teddy."
