Requiem- Dear Evan Hansen
"Where's Jackson?" Chris asked as we sat down for dinner. It was a Friday, and we decided to have dinner together before we split off.
"He's visiting our parents in hospital," I mumbled, digging at the food on my plate. I didn't want to talk about them. I didn't want to think about them. It's not like they weren't going to be fine. As far as I was concerned, they'd be around forever to torment me. I'd never get rid of them. I mean, by no means did I want them dead. God, the way I phrased that made me sound horrible. I sighed in relief when April changed the subject. I was trying to avoid the inevitable for as long as possible. That only lasted until we went off to our rooms for the night.
"Baby?" Cass sat on the edge of the bed, tilting his head in question like he was all innocent.
"No."
"Why not?" The facade broke.
"Because I don't want to. I'm sure they're fine. I don't need to go see them."
"They're your parents."
"It was just a car crash," I turned back to the book I was reading at his desk. I let myself be submerged in the words, but was pulled back out at a bitter laugh from my boyfriend.
"'Just a car crash'? You're shitting me, right?"
"Oh, fu-," I sighed. "I'm sorry, love. I forgot."
"Good for you."
"I'm sorry."
He rolled his eyes and left the room. I followed him, but was thwarted by the bathroom door being slammed shut in my face.
"Cassie?"
"Shut up."
I groaned, hitting my head off the door. "I'll go see them."
"You won't."
"I promise. Just get out here. Please."
It took a few more minutes of pleading to coax him out and into my arms. I pulled him close so my head was against his chest. "You'll really go?"
"Tomorrow."
"Do you want me there?"
"As much as I do... I need to do this by myself. I'll keep in touch though."
"Promise?"
"Promise. Come on, let's go back to our room."
"And do what?"
"Whatever you want."
"Mario Kart?"
"Oh, you're on."
