Cloudy
The recess bell sounds as everyone starts to pack up and make their way to their next class. I try to catch up to Smoke as he walks away, I catch up to him and tap on his shoulder to get his attention. He stops before spinning around, taking his ear buds out
"sorry, is it ok if I sit with you? I still don't really have any friends here" I say, sounding a little nervous, he sighs before replying
"why me?" he asks, I honestly don't know how to answer him
"I ... I don't know, you just look a little lonely and I thought I could be your friend or at least cheer you up a little" I say, drooping my ears a little. Smoke turns away and begins walking again
"I don't sit alone so it's up to them if you can stay, but I don't really care what you do" he says, causing me to smile a little before I go to catch up and keep pace with the loner.
After turning a corner at the end of the science block, we reach a bench with about 5 other kids, a wolf, a wolf-dragon, a thylacine and what looks to be twin kangaroos. Smoke sits down as everyone turns to look at me
"h-hi, I'm cloudy, I-I'm new here" I say with a nervous stutter. The thylacine stands up and moves towards me before giving a little hug
"hey, don't be nervous, we won't bite or anything" she says before looking to Smoke then turning back to me "well, maybe he will" she whispers, causing us both to giggle a little.
the wolf-dragon gets up before throwing out his paw
"Emerald" he states before I grab and shake his paw, he turns around "and this is Nikita, Nathan, David and I'm assuming you already met Smoke" he says as he looks back to me
"yeah, he was the one who allowed me to come here with him" I say.
Emerald's face goes in to a slight shock
"he did?" he asks before he turns to Smoke "you aren't getting soft, are you Smoke?" he laughs. Smoke doesn't even pay attention, he just listens to his music and eats a pack of crisps.
"Also, this is -" Emerald starts before he gets interrupted
"I'm Tiana" the thylacine says with a smile "sorry Emerald" she adds while sticking her tongue out at him and laughing.
We sit down, I choose to sit in between Nikita and Tiana while across from me sits the twins. I look to the pair with confusion
"how do people tell you apart?" I ask, one of them leans forward a little
"hair, Nathan has the spiked hair but I prefer to have the better looking, long and smooth hair" he says with a smile before giving me a little wink. Nathan punches him in the shoulder after, clearly disagreeing with that statement
"what? fuck off, we both know I'm the better looking one" he says causing them to argue, thus making everyone else except smoke start laughing, the twins themselves start after a minute.
"So, Cloudy, tell us about yourself, where did you move from?" Emerald asks as everyone shifts their attention to me
"I came from a small town in Pennsylvania" I answer
"thought you came from America, the accent sorta gave it away" Nikita says "so, what made you move here?" she asks. I take a bite out of a muffin my mom made
"mom always wanted to see Australia, my dad originally came from here and he always promised that we were going to move here but he got hit by a car and ... he didn't make it, so mom wanted to fulfil his wish" I say, feeling a little down as I remember, I almost shed a tear before I feel a paw pat me on my back. I look behind me to see Smoke, his paw on my shoulder, comforting me
"I'm sure he's happy to know that you and your mum are happy here now, I'm sure he's proud" he says before walking off.
Everyone looks confused as he walks away
"d-did he just-?" David stutters
"yep" Tiana answers, everyone else just sit in shock.
"What?" I ask, confused by everyone's reaction
"he'd never done anything like that, ever" Nikita says, puzzling me
"what do you mean?" I ask her
"she means that being excluded and showing no emotion or feeling is just how he is, hell, he won't even tell us about himself" Emerald says, I continue to give a look of confusion "I met him at the start of the year and I still don't know much, only that he is a damn good artist" he adds before looking at me "you must interest him or something" he adds. I look past him to see that Smoke is nowhere to be seen, he must have turned at the corner of the building. The siren sounds to mark the end of Recess, we all pack up and I look at my timetable
"what do you have now?" Nathan asks, I reply after taking a good look
"I have science in 406" Nikita looks to me after packing her bag
"hey, that's where I'm going, wanna come with me?" she asks, causing me to smile and give a friendly nod.
