Chapter 43

*Your POV*
After a little bit of listening to the radio and going through no traffic, I make it. I knock on the door and she answers.

"Hey, we're just about to go," she says, getting her coat.

"Where are we going?" I ask.

"Pickens Park. We're going to investigate there." Archie says, coming out from the living room.

"Okay," I nod. We all walk outside and to our cars.

"Um, Betty I'm going to ride with [Y/N], I have to talk to her about something, but we'll follow you, I promise."

"Okay, that's fine." She quickly smiles and nods. She makes her way to her car while Archie and I go to mine. We both get in and start driving behind Betty.

"So, want to tell me why you can't be alone with her?" I ask, slightly tilting my head, my eyes still on the road.

He sighs, "She sort of kissed me."

I think for a second, "Hm. Did you..kiss back?" He gives me a weird look. "What?" I shrug, "Just asking."
"I, I don't really know, honestly. I mean, kind of?" He shrugs.

"Okay," I tilt my head. I don't really know what to say to that, honestly. After a while of following Betty's car, we reach the park that they were talking about. I get out of the car, while Archie follows. "Okay so, what are we doing here?"

"Basically, just trying to find a grave that Mr. Svenson was supposevely buried in," Betty says.

"Hm." I nod and look around. They both have the flashlights, while I'm behind them.

"Look around, there?" She shines her flashlight in the trees. They both look at each other and then start running. I run after them. They stop running after a little bit into an empty space.

"Here lies Joseph Conway, Sinner" is written on a wooden gravestone. I forgot that was his real name.
Archie looks at the both of us and Betty nods. He looks back down and grabs a shovel that stuck out of the ground next to the stone. He starts digging, while Betty looks around to make sure no one is near us. Once he's done, there lies a coffin, lightly covered in dirt. We start clearing the dirt and then open it. The coffin is empty. My eyes stare down at it, confused.

"Where's Mr. Svenson?" Archie asks. I step out of the grave. I turn around and stuff my hands in my pockets. I start walking around. "Why would the Black Hood burry an empty coffin?"

I hear a gun cock. I quickly turn around and see a man in black, the Black Hood. "Get in the coffin," he commands, pointing a gun at both Archie and Betty. I get behind a tree, so he doesn't see me from behind him. I just watch the scene. Archie refuses to get into the grave, but eventually does when the man pointed his gun at Betty's head. My eyes widen. "Get in, or I shoot her. Now!"

He puts his hands up in surrender, still looking at him. He steps into the coffin in the ground. He lays his head down. Betty looks up at the man. I can see her eyes watering. She's panting, too.

"Shut the grave and cover the coffin with dirt. Betty, do it." She actually does what she's told. The door slowly shuts. She mutters an I'm sorry to Archie. Once she's done she steps out of the ditch. "Pick up the shovel." She picks up the shovel and starts putting dirt over the coffin.

I quickly get out my phone and dial 911. This is insane. I back away from the scene a little bit. Someone on the line answers. I tell them our location, Pickens Park, and then hang up. When I come back, Betty is saying things to the Black Hood like, Mr. Svenson shouldn't die, and doesn't have to. She also knows what the town's sin is, which I still don't. I have kind of an idea. I wave my arms up, to get her attention. Her eyes glance over at me. I hold up my hands as if I were holding the shovel, and swing them like a baseball bat. She understands what I'm getting at, even though she doesn't show it. She looks down again. I hear police sirens in the distance, and so do they. The Black Hood quickly looks behind him, and I run around the tree so I'm out of his sight. Betty bangs the shovel over his head. I walk over to the grave and she turns around. We both start uncovering the dirt. I look up and see him running.
