In those ten minutes of waiting, I found myself slowly drifting off to sleep. Just when my body started to completely relax, I heard a stampede of feet running up the stairs towards my room.  I cracked open an eye just in time to see my friends barging into my room with worried looks on their faces.

Everyone was carrying something as they all came to sit down on my bed. Zach had return to place beside me. Noel dropped everything on the bed before wrapping me up in her arms giving me the biggest hug ever.

Eve and Roxanne then followed suit. I couldn’t help but cry from the comfort my friends were giving me. I looked over Roxanne’s shoulder to see Trevor looking at me with sad eyes. “Oh my gosh, Abby as soon as Zach called us we came rushing over.” Eve told me, taking her place back on the bed.

I turned to look at my brother, “Thanks Zach, you’re the best brother any girl could ever have.” I leaned over towards him to give him a side hug.

“Anything for my sister,” He kissed the top of my head like I was a little girl. I smiled at him. I turned my attention back to my friends.

“What was all the stuff you guys were carrying?” my eyes wandered over to pile of items in one corner of my bed. Everyone grabbed the things they brought and just stared at me with smiles on their faces.

I looked at them with creeped out expression. Noel went first, the item; well her gift I should say was a huge box of tissues with a box of chocolates. Eve’s gift for me was a print out photo of Chad. I looked at her, confusion clear as day on my face; she just chuckled and pulled out a box of darts. I couldn’t help but laugh.

Roxanne’s gift was ice cream and a stack of movies that she brought from her house for all of us to watch. Just when I thought the gift giving was over Trevor got up and came to stand beside me with his hands behind his back. “I’m sorry this happened Abby, you’re like a sister to me, man it sucks to see you like this, so here you go.” Trevor pulled a adorable teddy bear from behind his back. The teddy bear was a pretty light grey color with blue gray eyes.

My eyes had begun to water. “Aw thanks you guys, this means so much to me.” Tears were running down my face again. Noel pulled out a tissue that she got me and handed it to me. I couldn’t help do a choked up laugh while crying.

Having my friends there with me really helped out a lot. For the rest of the day my friends and brothers and I did some karaoke, played darts using Chad’s photo as a target and when things began to slow down we sat up and watched movies. It was Sunday night, which meant school the next day, but I really wasn’t up for going to school. I got up from bed to go sit down on my window seat to look out at the scenery. Noel had eventually gotten up and came to join me.

“What’s going on in that pretty blonde head of yours?” She asked softly. I just shrugged. “A lot,” my voice came out lower than I expected.

“Worrying about tomorrow huh?” Noel pulled at the hem of her shirt. I just nodded. “Well don’t worry love; you’ll have all of us there to support you through it all.” I let my gaze leave the scenery to look at her and see such a warm and caring smile on her face. I leaned forward to give her a hug.

When it grew late everyone started gathering their things so they could head home and get ready for school the next day. “Thanks again you guys, you guys are truly amazing friends.” I said, standing in the threshold of the front door of the house. “No problem,” they all said together and then we all laughed. I waved goodbye to them all until I couldn’t see their tail lights any longer.

I closed the door behind me and leaned my back against it. I felt a pair of eyes on me. I opened them to see Zach staring at me. I gave him a reassuring smile, but he just frowned seeing through me.

I wandered to the kitchen feeling a bit hunger, craving some homemade food. “What you doing?” Zach leaned against the kitchen island watching me with curious eyes.

“Making myself something to eat, you want something?” I started pulling ground beef out of the refrigerator along with lettuce, tomatoes, and some other random food. Zach just nodded.

I had been cooking for a few minutes now and I noticed Zach was still watching me. “Okay Zach you got to stop!” I finally complained. He broke out of his daze after my outburst.

“Stop what?” For the first time my brother sounded like a big headed dummy for that second. I laughed at him, not able to resist from his facial expression.

“I need you to stop staring at me like I’m some zoo animal.” I told him, as I let the ground beef cook, while I cut up some tomatoes and washed off some lettuce.

“Oh sorry, I didn’t realize it.” He gave me a sheepish smile. I just smiled. I grabbed four slices of bread and popped them into the toaster, as the bread cooked I went back to tending the meat.

Twenty minutes later we were sitting at the kitchen island eating my homemade hamburgers with chips and juice. “This is actually good Abby, didn’t know you could cook, actually didn’t know you knew how to work a stove or toaster.” Zach teased. I frowned at him, giving him one hard shove sending him falling to the kitchen floor. I started cracking up laughing at him. His face was hilarious. He frowned up at me. “Oh you’re so dead Abby,” he threatened. I stopped laughing to see him with a devilish smile.

“Uh-oh,” I hopped off the bar stool and ran for dear life. I ran out of the kitchen and into the living room. We circled the coffee table for a few minutes, until I booked it out of there running down the hall to the den. I hid in the little closet we had, trying to quiet my breathing. Once Zach stepped into the den I held my breath.

“Hiding will not do you any good my little Bonnie.” Zach stood in the middle of the den. It was now or never; so I quickly threw open the door and made my way for the stairs to head back to the living room. The entire time I could hear his feet bounding after me. As soon as I got in the living room and turned around he tackled me to the floor.  Zach sat his knees on my arms so I couldn’t move. “I got you now.”

I looked at him with horrified eyes. “What are you going to do?” my heart beat racing from all that running I just did. Zach just evilly smiled down at me. He then stuck both his index fingers in his mouth making them completely soaked with his salvia, which was utterly gross by the way.

“Oh no, Zach please, not a wet wily.” I begged. He just shook his head bringing those nasty slimy fingers towards my ears. I squirmed and shook my head, but he still managed to give me a wet wily. “UGH!!” I screamed with disgust. Zach rolled off of me dying with laughter while I jumped up and ran to the bathroom to disinfect my poor little ears.

As I took a q-tip to clean my ears Zach came in there too, chuckling. “Oh…come…on…it wasn’t…that…bad.” He could barely get his sentence out between the fit of laughter. I just glared at him through the mirror. “Aw come on my little Bonnie, it was all out of love, plus that was payback for pushing me.” I thought about it and shrugged.

“Touché,” I told him, grabbing a small face towel to dry out my ears before turning out the light and leaving the bathroom.

For the remainder of the night my brother and I just goofed off and watched some movies. I had realized Zach was trying to keep me occupied, to keep my mind off of –that person’s name we all know but shall never speak of again- Even when I grew tired again that night, Zach still hadn’t left my side, in fact my brother was spending the night with me. “Sleep Abby, don’t worry I’m not going any where I’ll be right here,” Those were the last words I heard Zach whisper before I drifted off into a deep sleep.

But even in sleep I still could see his face, making my heartache all the more.
