Why was it that all of the little 'field trips' the curse breakers took were to abandoned houses? Just the birthday present Bill wanted, a desolate, cobwebbed house that stank of cats piss. He and Harley were sent to work in the basement and search for a goblet that is owned by the goblins. The pair used their wands to light up the damp and dark room. It was cold and the air nipped at Harley's legs which were barely covered due to her choice in shorts for the day. Goosebumps raked her legs and she was sure that if she hadn't shaved them the hairs that would be there would be standing up like the ones on the back of her neck. "Core blimey it reeks of piss down here!"She exclaimed lifting her arm up to her nose and mouth.
Bill nodded, his arm muffling his words as he titivated around in the room, flicking his wand to move things out of the way deciding against touching anything with his bare hands. They could hear the footsteps of people on the above floors as well as the chatter from them but they could also hear ticking. "Harls, can you hear that?"
The young woman nodded and frantically began to search for the noise. Dust clouds erupted with many movements of objects and constantly Harley had sticky substances on her hands because she wasn't being as smart as Bill and was handling objects with her hands. She pulled paintings aside and moved boxes until she found the source of the noise. A rusty and dust metal clock was still ticking, except on the same spot, the date above the clock face stuck as well. "It's just a broken clock." She told Bill and flung it away from her, the metal crashing onto the floor and the ticking stop. "I think I just broke it more." She snorted before turning around and finding herself alone. "Bill? Bill? Please, Bill! I'm not in the mood for practical jokes, its dark and disgusting in this house, which may I remind you is abandoned and normally an abandoned house means dead bodies or ghosts! So don't bloody do this to me!" The blonde began to panic, spinning around pointing her illuminated wand everywhere around the room.
It was just her. Her heart began to race and she felt sick. A cold shiver ran down her spine and she clutched her wand tighter. If this was a joke when she next saw Bill, birthday or not, his arse was being kicked and he was sleeping on the sofa that night. The girl screamed as she came across a set of bright eyes staring at her from the corner or the room and a screech sounded along with the sound of wings flapping. She hopped over items in her way and ran up the stairs, her hands shaking. Once up the stairs, she bumped into Roger and Asa who were about to enter the basement and question why she screamed.
Roger held her in his arms as she shook in fear. "Sweetheart, what's wrong? Where's Bill?" He asked her, rubbing her back trying to soothe her.
She shrugged, "I don't know, we heard ticking so we were searching for the s-source. It was a c-clock and-and when I turned around he was g-gone. Then there was a b-bat." The two men were aware of her fear of bats and new that with Bill disappearing ti didn't help the situation.
"C'mon, we'll have a look down there with you for Bill," Asa said and tried to direct her to the basement door.
She shook her head vigorously, "No. No. No."
"Harley, we'll be with you. The bat won't hurt you. Just think if it was facing a bat and finding Bill or not and not finding him what would you choose?"
"The first one." She mumbled. Roger smiled at her softly and held onto her hand, Asa leading them down the stairs. Roger didn't mind her holding onto him and holding him tighter when the bat flew above their heads, Asa quickly stunning it so that it wouldn't affect the woman. She still didn't let go of her boss and used her wand to lift objects and search for her boyfriend.
Asa and Roger also picked and moved objects and they came across as a pile that Harley had formed when searching for the ticking noise. They couldn't believe it when they found Bill trapped beneath it his arm covering his mouth like when he was looking. "Bill! What are you doing under there?" Asa questioned helping him out from beneath boxes and paintings and onto his feet.
He coughed and brushed the dust from his body before turning to Harley, "Someone went a little gung-ho when moving and throwing things out of the way that I didn't have the chance to move and was knocked off of my feet and quickly buried. I tried to call out by hand was pressed to my mouth and I couldn't move it."
Harley gasped and let go of Roger leaping into Bill's arms, "I am so sorry! I really am-"
"Shut it, you!" Bill cut her off and hugged her tightly, "It doesn't matter. What matters is why you screamed." Harley blushed and Roger explained that it was a bat. "Aw, come 'ere."
"Well we have established that the damn thing isn't in this dingy basement, let's go search somewhere else." Roger suggested, "Try not lose each other on the way." He teased causing the couple to roll their eyes and Asa to chuckle.
"We'll try not too." Bill grinned placing his hand on the small of Harley's back leading her out of the room.
